Featured Replies

Since 1980

Mayfield 69-19

Danville 70-14

Beechwood 72-14

Pikeville 53-19

Male 40-19

Trinity 70-15

St. X 57-18

I'd say 100 is very possible with these teams.

I know what you mean Ram I was the same way. Was on that Louisville H.S. website like that. Was hoping some Ram fan could help and tell me if was right because it did seem weird to me. It says Manual didn't win a playoff game after 1988 until the 2002 season!

With the exception of the Prentice days, that doesn't surprise me. It's the 60s and 70s that does... except for one of them. I don't really know which.

In 45 years, Highlands has:

25 District Champs (56%)

23 Regional Champs (51%)

5 State Runner-up (11%)

16 State Champ (36%)

Between their State Runner-ups and their State Championships, the Birds have appeared in 47% of the title games. They average a State Championship game appearence every 2.1 years with a crown every 2.8 years.

Their longest streak without a title is 6 years...1990 thru 1995.

Is Highlands public or private?

Is Highlands public or private?

Public.

I believe teams played an 11 game schedule before the started allowing 4 teams from each district into the playoffs in 1991.

I know in the 70's that there was only a 10 game schedule.

If the playoffs started in 1959, what are the playoff games you reference dating back t 1950? How many does Highlands have officially since the playoffs began in 1959?

That's what I meant by my first post. I don't know if there was any type of one game playoff for a mythical champion or what. I was solely basing those numbers on a ten game regular season schedule. Anything above and beyond 10 games was counted as a playoff game so my numbers would be slightly inflated. 72birdman's are probably more accurate.

I know in the 70's that there was only a 10 game schedule.

Some teams did play 10 game schedules but others played 11. Danville always played 11 until the early 80's. Boyle played an 11 game schedule until 1978 then they went to 10. Not sure why.

Best I remember, teams could play 11 games until sometime in the early 90s. Then they were limited to 10.

Teams could play a maximum of 11 games until the 1991 season when the playoffs expanded and the regular season went to 10 games. Some teams worked in an off week instead of playing 11 games in the season

My records only go back 25 years, but hopefully by the start of next year I'll have your answer if all goes as planned.

I thought you would have the info if anybody did. :thumb:

Belfry was 30-13 from 90-04 in playoff games.

I am not sure from 80-89 what their playoff record was. I think they won a game or two in 80 and then I don't think they made the playoffs from 81-84. I think they won 3 games each in 85 & 86 (they were 3A runner ups each year). I'm not sure about 87 & 88, and they lost in the semifinals in 89, so I guess that is 2 wins.

So I am going to guess and say they were 12-6 from 80-89.

If so, that would put their record at around 42-19 since 1980.

I don't know how much playoff success they would have had prior to 1979 when they were 12-1 and 3A runner ups. But I am going to guess and say their overall playoff wins would be around 50-55 since 1959.

Those numbers correct for Manual? They went and lost to Trinity in 88, and changed into the Magnet program and had a bunch of fairly bad seasons... but there was the time in the early 90s with Travis Prentice... didn't they have a win or two then? And of course, the win over North Hardin my senior year (only to get mashed up by Male the second time that season in the second round), and the win this year... I understand that Manual was kind of down during the 60s or 70s, but surely there were a few years... I don't know, it just seems wierd. I know their numbers wouldn't compare with X and T and M, but still.

I mean, going to the championship alone was 4 wins, unless the playoffs were different then... plus those two... and there were NO other wins?

In 88, there were only three playoff games before the state game, so Manual won three that year.

There were absent several times in the early and mid 80s so I just dumped them from my research when I didn't think they would hit 70 games.
