Most take your point of view. Most of the clamoring for NewCath-Highlands is coming from the Highlands crowd. I don't see the benefit for them. I see the benefit for NewCath, but not a team trying to be sustain national prominence. Once NewCath gets their numbers up, I believe that it will make sense. There are years that NewCath will be either 2nd or 3rd best in NKY. Those years, it would be in the interest of both as Highlands needs to play local NKY teams for financial reasons. Those years are hard to predict in advance of scheduling. A solid JR. High team is not a definite predicator of varsity success.

Back in the day when the New Cath and Highlands games were competitive, New Cath was all boys and had 400 athletes to choose from. Enrollment now is still around the same- but half are girls. That's why there are classes in football (although too many).

We are on the same page on NCC for sure. Highlands will be 4A in the future, and now need to schedule one "good" cincy team per year, and either Trinity or ST. X from the 'ville.

In case you didn't notice-the Withrow Tigers, who the birds have on the schedule this year have already lost to Sycamore.

 

I did notice the loss to Sycamore; the DC at Withrow is a good friend and client of mine. Last year they were a pretty decent team however. On the level of Cincy X, Elder, Colerain, Moeller, Lou X or T? Nope (actually they may have been better than the T team I saw on tape against Cincy X last year). But a pretty decent team. Better than any N. Ky team we played last year in my assessment and arguably better than any team we played in the playoffs other than perhaps JC (and I'm not too sure about JC. Offensively JC was better, but defensively, Withrow was better). Last year's Withrow team was huge across the lines, had a couple of very good LBers, had a lot of speed at the skill positions and had a pretty good QB. I believe a lot of that talent graduated, which may explain the loss to Sycamore.

I also agree that T and X should be the team we are looking to schedule and perhaps an Anderson or Turpin on the other side of the river. I think some of the HHS faithful would like to get a crack at NewCath in football because of the rivalry between the two schools in other sports. NewCath recently gave both the boys and girls program on the hardwood early exits this past season and many of the Bred student body let HHS fans know about it during the exit of the game. NewCath has been very successful in the other high school programs and many times HHS and NewCath square up. So many want the opportunity to do the same on the grid iron. You can't blame the fans for calling for this game. I know they are in the same district and have to play each other; but IMO the New Cath program is quick to point out the recent success in baseball and basketball to kids in the local area; so I think HHS has every reason to schedule this game.

Do you know how tough it is to match up schedules??:D

Highlands has the best football in the state of Ky and in Ohio for the size of School they are, but that said there other sports are down, football has hurt them in baseball the most, in FT if you play football you play football year round.

And for BW they will not be playing Highlands for long, Highlands can put up 80 this week if they what to.

It just confirms the fact that nobody really knows why they don't play. I don't know why Highlands would want to play NCC anyway, there's nothing to gain except bragging rights at the local taverns. There would be years however when the game would be interesting, but NCC just doesn't have the numbers to compete every year. Just like Highlands doesn't have the numbers to compete with X or Elder every year. Most of NCC's players play more than one sport and don't have the time to concentrate just on football.

Highlands is a football school no doubt; however IMO the posts are getting old stating that kids only play football year round. Many are playing at least two sports. Yes @ NewCath you can play the big three; but IMO some kids like to be the big fish in a smaller pond. I will leave it at that.

The bottom line is that when these two teams were in the same class, district and/or sub-district, there wasn't a better rivalry (I'm talking CovCath v. HHS in their hey-dey caliber). That all changed and lopsided victories lead to hard feelings and a dropped series. Not necessarily anyones fault be it Mueller, Schneider, whomever.........clearly the time had passed where this was a necessary or relevant match-up in football. Currently NCC competes well against HHS in most sports but football isn't likely going to be one of them in the forseeable future. Unless NCC is loaded up and schedules are synced in those years, there is no benefit to either program to schedule this game. HHS should continue to catch a Cincy/L'ville match-up when possible and NCC is better served keeping Beechwood, CovCath, CampCo, Ryle, or a comparable Cincy opponent to round out their schedule and prepare for their playoff competition. If bragging rights in FT are the only reason...........there really isn't one.

The only benefit to Highlands playing NCC is to beat them hard and often, thus hopefully inducing the Ft. Thomas kids thinking about going to NCC to instead go to Highlands.

When was the last time Highlands played a Campbell County school? NC, Newport, Campbell County, Dayton, Bellevue, Bishop Brossart. (Yes, Brossart is new, I know that.)

 

I am clearly not calling for the renewal of the Dayton/HHS clash, but we play no one from our own county. How long has this been true?
