So, it seems you are saying that NCC SHOULD NOT play Highlands because you feel that HHS is better and there's no need for NCC to be smacked down every year, BUT, Highlands SHOULD play T or X even though you think T and X are better than Highlands and HHS would get smacked down every year. I don't follow your logic on this one... why do you think NCC has no reason to play HHS, but HHS has plenty of reasons to play T or X? Why do you hold NCC and HHS to different standards?

 

It seems to me that in your scenario, NCC and HHS would be in the same boat, since NCC playing Highlands would involve a smaller squad (NCC) playing a larger one (HHS), and HHS playing T or X would also involve a smaller squad (HHS) playing a larger one (T or X). Why, then, would it be a good thing for one and not the other?

I don't know if it's a jealousy thing or you played for or support a team that has lost a lot to Highlands. Maybe you just can't stand the Highlands people always thumping their chests on here. You are convinced that it is Highlands ducking all the big schools. Yet I've told you that Mueller and Beatty did try in earnest to schedule a game last year and this year. I told you that I spoke directly to Dale about it. I told you that someone very close to the program saw the e mails going back and forth and Dale actually proposed at least one date that Highlands had available. You must think I'm a liar, since you continue over and over and over again to make the Highlands ducking allegation, a point I don't take kindly to. If you are not willing to call Beatty as I suggested you do, then perhaps you can PM the Guru and get his assessment of my integrity and knowledge of things Highlands and stop the childish behavior and posts.

Lets also be realistic. It isn't in Highlands interest to play more than a couple of really large, physical schools a year. It is excellent to play a couple of non district teams that test you, but your goal is still a 5A state championship. Therefore, you don't want to play a non-district schedule that is so grueling that you are putting starters in the tub by playoff time. I don't blame Dale for playing a couple of tough ones a year, but playing a little less physical schedule on a few also. Why would Highlands want to have a schedule like Colrain, X, Louisville X, Trinity, and Ryle for non district? It is too much. BTW, I put Ryle on that list due to the physicality of the game.

So Ryle tried to beat Highlands, but didn't, does that mean they can go around saying they did it? Trying isn't doing it. It also isn't calling you a liar. It simply means that there are 6 or 7 free weeks to schedule a game, and it wasn't accomplished. Perhaps in the future.

The ducking wasn't my point. I am sure that if Highlands wants to play T, then there will be a spot on the schedule where these two schools could make it happen after realignment. As you know, a two year contract term is ending this year which will allow for multiple schedule changes. If Highlands moves to 4A where there playoff competition will change drastically, I think it would be foolish to play more than two or three of these caliber teams during non-district play.

Also, for the sake of accuracy, I cannot recall one interview of Coach Mueller this year during which he made any comment about believing HHS was the best team in the country in 2010. I have heard him mention his desire to win the Class 5A title this year, but nothing about being the best in the country. I will acknowledge my error if you can produce a quote from him touting his team being the best in the country in 2010, however.

 

The only year I can recall him touting his team as the best in the country was 2009. He wasn't too far off, as his team finished with a number-3 ranking in the nation's most notable rankings list, and was actually ranked second in the entire nation in the USA Today's penultimate rankings for 2010. I realize that the USA Today Super 25 doesn't hold a candle to the History Super 25, but alas, we 'Birds will take what we can get!!!

I'll go even slower... Highlands was the best team in the state in 2009. Are you saying that there was a KY team better than Highlands last year? Which team(s)?

 

I'm curious to know which team you think was the best in KY last year. I am even more eager to know how you go about defending your answer, given that the Class 6A, Class 5A and Class 4A state champs didn't play each other last year. How will you go about deciding, since the issue wasn't settled on the field?

Wow this has really gotten off the path but this is what needs to be understood by all parties involved.

 

Scheduling an opponent is really not that tough if you really want to make it happen.........I mean come on you only have a few district games and of course a rivalry game or two to play. But at the same time the weeks that you have in common might not be conducive.

 

For example if I am Highlands I have district games in certain weeks next season and everything else is open. I have developed a series with Ryle that will continue. Okay that leaves 5 weeks lets say to schedule other opponents. I would not schedule a major power the week before or after your biggest district game (lets say CovCath). Nor would I schedule them the last week of the season right before playoffs start. That leaves avout a two week window that needs to coincide.

 

Lets say Highlands and T want to schedule each other............That would have been completed by now for the next two year cycle. Unfortunately the KHSAA is making this tough with the redistricting....................So..............now everybody is in a semi frozen state on scheduling.

 

The flip side of this is that Highlands could make a list of 10 teams and easily find one of those ten to play and sign a new two year contract with..............One of those ten will have a coresponding date open. The easiest thing to do is make it the opening game of the season...........

 

 

Here could be potential teams on that list:

Trinity

St. X

Colerain

St. X Cincy

Moeller

LaSalle

Elder

Princeton

Middletown

Teams from Indy...???????????
