Both...I would say it was pretty equal...

Haven't seen the stats yet, but excluding Brohm's senior year of 2003, we have been virtually equal in running and passing.

I saw both teams score and left. Drew Houliston scored from the QB spot on a keeper for the Birds.

 

Trinity scored on a nice pass from the QB to a 6'5 kid in the flat, that was probably a 5 yrd TD pass.

 

I believe Hergott(19) ran the draw to score. Each team ran approx. 20 plays. Highlands moved the ball on the ground. 2(tds) Trinity scored both times in the air. The last play of the scrimmage to the 6'5 kid. I was told later that Trinity did not bring there frosh. the travel for a 20 min scrimmage, wasn't worth it. HHS frosh played Trinitys, JV, whic was probably their B team.

Houliston is the QB, but I think the middle draw was out of their short yardage package where Hergott takes the snap.

No doubt it is a "team" private effort. That said, >$10,000/yr. (with an extension of time from the original commitment when the turf was put in) is a significant contribution.

Donovan is 6' 170lbs but he is fast, aggressive and the type of athlete they need on the field.

 

I think there are a lot of these "types of athletes" that HHS needs on the field, but that doesn't mean that they all get to play where and when they want. There are probably several very good athletes that do not get to "pick" their positions in this environment, but as a team player, you support the needs of the team first, and not just individual aspirations. Could it be that there might be some influence on Donavan's choices by someone not in the program ?

I'm going to set the record straight for all the ill-informed dads. Donovan did not and would never turn down a defensive varsity starting position. He is a team player playing exactly the position he was asked to play. Starting this year, Highlands no longer allows players to play both sides of the ball. The Highlands fans should feel confident knowing that they have Donovan backing Pat if anything would happen and he is prepared to lead the team to 20n10.

As many BGP posters have said, HHS reloads every year. Having McCoy ready in the wings if needed is a good feeling for Birds' fans. From the looks of things and the likelihood of a few lopsided wins, he'll get plenty of work at the Varsity level this year.

Thanks 94 for setting the record straight. Unfortunately, people repeat stuff they hear and it somehow becomes "gospel". The number one reason I dislike BGP is the spreading of bad information. The number one reason I like BGP is that the bad information can be corrected and put to rest. Thanks again.

A very good feeling to have Donovan backing up PT. I think its a compliment to Donovan that many Bird fans want to see him roaming at the LB position. He had a fantastic freshman season where he was in on just about every tackle and then made a lot of great plays on offense. Maybe Dale will try to get him on the field with the offense this year and run some HB option passes.
