That kid is very very special. If he is not a top 150 player his senior year there is something wrong.

 

I told my son who has played hoops against him in AAU ball, I said you see Quick, that kid will be playing on Sundays one day. I mean he just looks the part and is elusive as can be. He didnt show burner speed just great elusiveness and a ton of moxy for a sophomore.

Another thing not really mentioned was the Highlands kicking game. Excellent tonight. Weinel put it out of the endzone several times not giving Quick an opportunity to take it to the house. The punts were beautiful as well often putting the returner on the run backwards.

I saw both teams score and left. Drew Houliston scored from the QB spot on a keeper for the Birds.

 

Trinity scored on a nice pass from the QB to a 6'5 kid in the flat, that was probably a 5 yrd TD pass.

Just read through the game updates thread. Sounds like it was a good game ... and I emphasize game. As many were predicting, it did not sound like this was played like a scrimmage at all. Both teams seemed to play to win, including starters on the field throughout and time outs by Highlands late in the game to stop the clock. I have to say I got a chuckle reading that updates thread when I saw the posts on the two late time outs by HHS. When does a team call a timeout to stop the clock in a scrimmage? So no doubt both teams played to win. Trinity seemed to be in control throughout with HHS fighting to stay in it and still challenging to tie it at the end. I think everyone got their money's worth in Ft. Thomas tonight.

I guess you didn't read the whole thread. HHS played a ton of kids they wouldn't of played if this was a regular season game, especially on defense..

For what it's worth, Rick Broering has a write-up of the scrimmage on his NKY Sports Blog (apparently, a more detailed analysis will be posted today). He indicated in his write-up that both teams played the game as if it counted.

 

Also, could it be that Highlands was substituting a lot on defense (and playing guys who would not normally play) because the "regular" starters were getting sliced and diced by T's offense? Maybe Coach Mueller and company were actually trying to get the right combination of guys out there to stop T's offense and win the scrimmage, as opposed to playing a ton of guys just to see how they would handle a game situation?

 

It sounds like a nice crowd showed up, which is great!

Mr. Quick lived up to his name. Super soph talent, it looks like T has a fantastic class and Quick will be playing major D1 ball (unbelievable skill for a soph). HHS kicking game is going to come up huge this year. Nice punts and long kicks that kept the ball from a QUICK return for 6.

 

HHS offense was good; receivers did not have the drops but some cramps but last night who would not. I think the line play was good, a couple of missed assignments a couple of plays where an end beat a tackle but I am sure that coach Turner will get this fixed.

 

The defense, wow need to work on tackling. So many arms and not many wraps. It was a terrible display of tackling and my young FTJFL players will hear about it this morning. Need more help on the defense line; Austin H played extremely well in the 2nd half and Sully made some plays and yes as mentioned Abner had a fantastic hit; but I assume he was still smarting over his play earlier in the game. Ab will be fine! Bruns was missing and boy did it show! Still HHS played a very skilled and fantastic team; It really will help the Defense get ready, I have no doubt that they will rise to the challenge.

Yep, all they'll need to be is withing 2 blocks of today's team meeting to hear. I think Coach W may have an interesting week planned for them.

Trinity wasn't cramping the way Highlands was. Granted, Highlands receivers were running 40 / 50 yards out. However, I imagine Dale will have them drinking Gatorade, eating bananas and running this week.

I have to disagree with you disagreeing. For a normal scrimmage or a Scott game, it was a great crowd. For a team like Trinity, it was just okay. None of the guys I generally attend with bothered to show and the student section was only the die-hards. The Trinity fans outnumbered the Highlands fans from what I could see, by a fairish amount. I'll go through my pics and see if I have a crowd shot.

My thoughts exactly. Hey I'm one that thinks that everyone in FT. Thomas,, if there is a football game, then you should be there. LOL! In the past, no way a scrimmage gets this much attention. I was overly surprised with the student turn out. That was great. And if you put the people on around the field because of the sun and heat into the stands, then it's full. Great game by both.
