Trinity brought a pretty respectable crowd considering that it was a scrimmage, but I think a lot of Ft. Thomas didn't take it seriously. Whatever the case, it was GREAT to see football again on Friday night. Can't wait until next week.

Coming from someone who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with very little vacation time during which to travel, I can't tell the Highlands fans in Ft. Thomas/NKY just how lucky they are to have the opportunity to go to Highlands games on a regular basis. The atmosphere of a game there is incredible and definitely worth so much more than the actual cost of admission. It makes me sad to hear that the attendance at a lot of HHS' games/scrimmages is often lacking. The last HHS game I got to attend in person was the 2007 playoff game against Letcher County Central, as I was able to make the trip on account of having a little bit of time off for Thanksgiving. It seems I may be able to attend the HHS-Ryle game in a couple of weeks (and that's only because I'm on paternity leave right now), and I think about it all the time. To the HHS fans up in NKY: you have no idea just how great you have it. Please take the time to go to Highlands games, if for no other reason than out of respect for those of us who aren't fortunate enough to hop in a car and drive 15 minutes to attend a 'Birds game.

Congratulations to the Shamriocks for what appears to be a nice scrimmage effort in Ft Thomas for a young squad.

Could someone go through the scoring for Highlands in the scrimmage (who scored, and how)? Any idea about Towles' stats?

The crowd was very good tonight and the Highlands students were actually into the game and cheering like it was a regular season game.

 

As far as the scoring for the Birds. Here is how I think it worked out, maybe someone can correct me.

 

Towles scored first TD on a run.

Gold scored a very long TD on a bomb from Towles

Compton scored on a run.

Sheehan scored on a 30 yrd pass from Towles

Compton scored on a long run from 60+ yards.

Towles scored on a nice cut back run from 10 yrds out.

 

A lot of kids out there with cramps tonight but man it was very very humid and I cant imagine having that equiptment on and playing.

 

I saw some bright spots at times on defense. Even though Abner probably didnt have the game he wished, he absolutely blew up a reciever at one point and the ball went flying 20 yrds up in the air. He also flew in and had a collision with a Rocks ball carrier just prior to that. The kid is definitely a hitter. Huddleston reads very well and gets to the ball in a hurry. The defensive line looks like it got pushed around a lot and they moved Bowden to the outside for more of a pass rush. They really miss having some beef to throw down on that DL. Austin Hollingsworth gave the Birds some really nice pressure from the outside and blew up a big 4th down play late in the game. I think they will tighten up and be ready for next week. The bottome line is if you score more than the other team you win. I see the Birds scoring a lot this year.

Towles had to of thrown for close to 300 yrds. He had an 80 yrd bomb to Gold for a score and a long bomb to Greg Gall also later in the game that covered probably 50 or 60 yrds.

Highlands has an Austin Hollingsworth?

I know that Highlands had an issue with too many dropped balls during the 7/7 competitions a few weeks back... was this a problem tonight?

You gotta love this high scoring battle between two class outfits. It was well worth T's trip north to learn about their defensive issues. I think the HHS defense will be fine. With all of H's DB's healthy, T's #17, who is a great one, and only a sophmore, may not have run quite as wild as he did tonight. HHS had one big play off the screen, but it looked to there all night, just had difficulty connecting. Offensively, both teams are ready to light it up. HHS kicking game looks great. I understand that T is loaded with sophmore talent. My guess is that in December, HHS & T will each have 20.

I don't know about 15-0, but I think they'll be around making noise deep into the playoffs. The Birds looked a bit ragged tonight, but games like this are entirely for the benefit of the coaching staff, and I'm sure they noted an area or two that needs work in the next seven days, and coming weeks for that matter. The fact that a scrimmage drew a crowd much like a regular season game says a lot about the two programs. I drove up around 6:30, found a place on the street across from the middle school, and was in the stadium 60 seconds later. I've NEVER done that before in the 30+ years that I've been coming to Highlands games. It was my first clue that the pre-game crowd estimates were going to be a bit off. Could not disagree with you more as to the bolded part. Highlands had a great crowd. I can't remember the last time the Lions Club ran the concession for a scrimmage.

Trinity's #3 was a huge kid as well and if I am not mistaken he is a sophomore as well. Can any of the Rocks fans confirm who this young man is and if its Sophomore Jason Hatcher? Also, is Wright, the QB, also a soph?

 

On a side note, as I was leaving I watched some of the Birds/Rocks Frosh and let me just say that the Birds Frosh are absolutely huge. #45 runs like an animal and he also attacked the ball from his MLB position very well. I believe this is the Harris kid.

T has new D coordinator has indicated he will play more man on the corners and rush the passer more from the second level. It will take time for the Rocks to sort this out. Until they assimilate this they will be susceptible to the long ball.
