Why wouldn't the KHSAA want to use the best enrollment numbers available? The most accurate way to decide where a school should be aligned for the 2011 and 2012 seasons would be to use numbers from the previous 2 years. By using the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 numbers you are getting a count of kids that will actually play during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. All kids that were enrolled in schools in 2008/2009 will have graduated by the 2012 season.

If the most fair and accurate alignment to all schools involves finalizing the alignment in December rather than October, then so be it. The alignment should be done the right way rather than the easiest way.

 

I wholeheartedly agree. As I mentioned in a previous thread, if they utilize the 2008/2009, then only the freshman class from that year (the class of 2012) will actually be at the school by the time they play under the new alignment. I fail to see the accuracy in that.

5A is interesting for N. Ky. Geographically, I only see three teams in a N. Ky. district - Conner, Scott and Grant County. Where does the 4th team come from? Would CCH play up? Cooper's enrollment numbers are probably skewed way too low with them being a new school. I don't know if they would get to 500 but they might be close. So would Cooper want to play up and argue their numbers are artificially low?

 

I agree with LN. Highlands is so far down the enrollment list that with other 4A schools close geographically (Pendleton Co. also in district perhaps?), I don't see how they would be allowed to move up to 5A. I think the way 4A and 5A shake out will be the most interesting to watch from the N. Ky. perspective.

If Dunbar moves up then Fern Creek goes to 5A. That would mean, IMO, that both SK and Ryle would be but in a Louisville district.

They don't have to wait or move up in classes to end the debate. Just play each other.

You can't just move up because you maybe want to or would rather play teams in that class. As stated earlier there has to be a geographical reason to move up. In 4A, Highlands has Cov. Cath. , Holmes and Cooper. The only reason Highlands moved up to 5A last time was because they were geographically bound in 3A and 4A wasn't going to work out.

Because they won't be permitted to move up to 6A. I'm sorry if you missed the 10 plus times it's been posted on here, but the KHSAA will only permit a move up if a school is geographically isolated in it's true class. With at least 3 (and perhaps 4) other N. Ky schools being 4A (if you include Pendleton Co) being in the 4A N. Ky district, there is no chance that Highlands will be permitted to move up to 6A. And you can take that to the bank.

1a in West Ky has Fulton Co, Fulton City and Mayfield and noone else under 2 hours away...I wish the 2 Fulton schools would merge and them and Mayfield both move up to 2a...Otherwise, it's a geographical nitemare for that 4th district team, whomever that may be...

Both Fulton City and Fulton County are under 200 students ... even if they merged, they would still be a Class A school.

Why do you think that SK and Ryle would move to a Louisville district? That would only leave 3 Northern Kentucky teams in a district with Dixie, Campbell, and Boone. There are plenty

of teams in the Louisville area to make up two disticts without taking teams from Northern Kentucky.

The KHSAA will have to either force Russellville to play in that district, or they'll have to wiggle to allow Ballard Memorial down to 1A. Either way it's a mess.

Actually, after looking over the scenarios, this could possibly happen, but then they would probably have to take a school like Oldham Co. and move them up with the Northern Kentucky district.

So, if Dunbar does move up and Fern Creek moves down at least one of the Northen Kentucky teams will have to move to a Louisville district. If it stays the way it is according to the article,

one of the Northern Kentucky teams could move to a Lexington district.

I wasn't trying to start anything, I understood it that if a team wanted to move to 6A they could. I read this on another site. But as History said HHS could play T and X each year to end any debate on who the best team in the state is. I think HHS is one of the top programs not only in the state but in this part of the country, but there will always be some that question if they are the best if they don't play T or X.
