I went to my frst Reds home game in about 3 years over the weekend and really enjoyed the 5-2 win over the Braves. But I couldn't make a habit of going to their games or I'd have to sale the farm. A buddy got the tickets (good seats behind home plate) on line for $56 + an extra $20 fee for handling charges and taxes. By the time you buy a few concession products your wallet is a whole lot lighter. A family of 4 would be out some serious bucks. I would go to a game or two of that, but that's about the limit. Not that I can't afford it, but I'll save the dough and watch on TV. Price gouging IMO.

I've still got my tickets from the Big Red Machine days (greatest team to have ever played the game BTW) and I believe the price we paid was around $5 for a game. Ahhh, the 'good old days'!!! before the Players Union destroyed it all with outrageous demands and salaries. A good uniform team spending cap (hear that Yankees!!) would solve a lot of problems.

Great AB by Heisey....I think he's putting his stamp on that CF job for the rest of the season.

It woudln't certaily seem like he has. He has played very well these last two games. Hopefully he can keep seeing the ball well and put it in play. I don't think Stubbs or Dickerson should start over him in CF until he has 2-3 bad games in a row. He is even making good defensive plays too.

Well that is certainly the way I took it when you said Votto wouldn't get a chance to bat in the 9th either. If I misunderstood you then I apologize. . The bottom line is Dusty screwed up waisting his best bat by using Votto in the 8th, when there was a base open.

Lost in all of this debate is couldn't Votto have hit for Cairo no matter what Janish did? The Pirates were using a right handed pitcher no matter what. If Janish gets out in the 8th Votto leads off the 9th w/ Rolen behind him and a chance to tie it. If Janish gets a hit and ties it Votto hits in the 8th and comes in to play first. Are we sure we want Cairo playing SS in big spots late in the game? LRCW I have to agree w/ you here though. Why have Votto go up anf get the free pass?

Maybe Heisey will be the outfielder that steps up down the stretch. One of them needs to. I wish Bruce would knock a few out to get his confidence back up. Today is a must win. Can't lose two of three to the Pirates.

Dusty again in a close game...

Dusty gets the blame?

I would probably give it to the error on Rolen and the complete collapse by Leake in the 2nd inning. But that's just me.

I agree that the prices are pretty ridiculous at the concession stands, but that is why you need to find the $1 Concession Stand. There are two in the park, both on the first base side. One is in the bottom secition, with the other in the top. Also, I believe that you can bring food in with you these days. I've seen families bring tons in before, seen others bring in Chipotle. I'm pretty sure they're allowed cause I find it hard to believe they snuck all that it.

Just thought I'd give some recommendations if you head to GABP again.

That's the only situation I feel would've been better. Votto up with Rolen behind him ensures he gets something to hit. Otherwise, I'm still not so sure if you wait until the last out, the Pirates don't just give him a free pass in the 9th, and take their chances with Heisey up and a runner on 1st.

Anyone get their tickets for the Cards games on Monday or Tuesday night? My roommates and I are ordering ours tonight or tomorrow.

This type of game is why the Reds can never get a six or seven game winning streak. They always seem to give on away a week. Somebody is going to get a winning streak and will get up by three or four games and that is your division winner.

If you're the Reds, do you switch up you're rotation for the St. Louis series to match theirs? Maybe go with Leake on normal rest the series finale in Chicago on Sunday, then go with Cueto, Wood, Arroyo during the Cards series?

No. I'd give everyone the extra day off. Leake seems not to do well w/ extended rest and Cueto wasn't himself last time out after throwing his most pitches all season the start before that. It would give them Leake, Cueto, and Arroyo right? If Leake doesn't do well his next start I could see him going to the DL and Bailey taking over the 5th spot for two weeks.

Like you said, if Leake doesn't do well with extended rest, why wouldn't you throw him Sunday after the normal 4 days rest?

That's what the rotation would look like. I just think you're almost conceeding game 1 if you throw Leake out there against Carpenter. JMO, of course.

Dusty pinch-hits a lefty vs. a lefty with 2 in scoring position. Puts arguably the best hitter in the league in to PH with first base open. Where is westsider?
