Insight Cable

Featured Replies

I keep wanting to leave Insight but every time I have looked at satellite as an alternative to Insight, cable wins out. Cable is less expensive. My friends who have satellite all tell me the same thing I am reading here - the satellite signal is less reliable. I have not looked into C Bell but I probably will if Insight adds the digital box requirement/fee.

I have had DirecTV for over 10 years, and the reliability has been 99.9%, not sure who you are getting your information from. I would not trade it for any other provider. When it comes to sports, there is nothing even close to the DTV experience. Can't understand why anyone would have Insight or any other provider. Cin Bell has HORRIBLE customer service. They are using people from India now, and you do not want to have to call them, it's a nightmare trying to understand their operators. I know companies do this to save money, but it makes the customer experience nightmarish.

You're telling me that in all your years, a strong storm has not caused your satellite signal to go out? That happened to my parents tons of times, and I witnessed it many times. A good wind would do it sometimes, not even rain. I never once had that happen with cable.

I'll answer from my side. I had a couple issues when I first got DTV three years ago. I had a tech look at it and he messed w/ something. In the 2.5 years since then I may have lost it twice. Last night was one time and it was for less than 10 minutes. I noticed last night though that all I was missing was the High Def channels. Once I switched the NBA game to the regular channel rather than HD I had it right away. I think they've found a way to eliminate a lot of down time. It was their biggest issue.

I can answer for myself as well. I've been a Dish Network customer for 11 years now. It was, and still is, not a matter of choice over cable... Insight stops about a half mile from our house. However, during that time period, I'd say our satellite has been out probably a total of 15-20 times. So, even worst case, an average of about twice a year. The drops usually occur with the super severe storms, like the one we had last night (Tuesday). I've had no problems with "regular" rain or snow...and certainly not wind. (I would imagine that if anyone ever did have a problem with wind, it was either a problem with their dish not being properly secured, or that there were trees in a portion of the line-of-sight that interrupted the signal when the branches were moving.)

The thing with satellite is that not every average Joe can install them, like cable. (Although some may sure feel that way.) It needs to be installed by a professional, with the right equipment and in the right setting. If someone starts trying to fiddle with the dish, they're only going to be doing more harm than good.

In the end, would I like a 100% guarantee that I'd never lose a signal? Sure, but even when I had cable previously, there seemed to be times when someone would run off the road and hit a pole or junction box, or someone doing construction would cut into a line. So, it was far from perfect too.

I am saying that in all the time I have had DTV, my outages have been less than 1% of the time that I don't have outages. The service is very reliable. It takes one heck of a storm to interrupt the service, and those don't happen very often. Even when it goes out, it's usually back within 10 minutes. I have never lost service due to anything other then hard rain.

It has gotten much much better than it used to be. They have done a great job and I wouldn't trade my DTV for anything.:thumb:

Such as? I have heard nothing but good things.

Not me, problems with billing, problems with service appointments, problems with the service itself. This was this past January so maybe they've worked on it. I would like to go with it so maybe I'll check back with the people who were complaining to see how they feel now. I know of 3 people who gave it a try and gave up on them due to the various problems.

I just called Insight and got a different story.

Starting in August they are going to start moving some channels off of analog and over to Digital. By January all of the channels will be digital.

If you have a DVR already you're fine. Nothing needed.

If you're like me and have a DVR on on but not the others you will need an adapter. The first adapter is free for 2 years. The additional adapters are $1.50 per month.

Without either a DVR or an adapter you will start losing channels in August.

Not surprising at all. One of the reasons that I dropped Insight and went to DirecTV was because different people gave you different interpretations of pricing policies. When I bought my house from my grandmother I had all of the utilities switched to my name. Most were very easy and straight forward. Not so with Insight. I called customer service and asked what I needed to do and was told there would be no charge to transfer the service to my name. When I got my first bill guess what, I had been charged for the transfer. When I called customer service and asked about it that person told me I was charged the wrong anount.

IMVHO Insight is a very poorly run company that has little or no concern for customer service and the sooner they get some real competition the better. In the mean time I can't see a situation where I would consider going back to them.

What he said. Heavy storms can cause interuptions but usually they are very short duration.

I also love my DirecTV application for my Blackberry. It allows me to record programs to any DVR in my house from a remote location. Very handy feature.

We had DirecTV for a couple of years. We did have some weather outages. The main problem we had was what is called rain fade. The signal never went completely out, however the picture would freeze or stop breaking up. On only a couple of occasions heavy snow also interupted the signal. I had to go out and knock snow off of it a couple of times. Poor customer service was what led us away from DirecTV though.

Or you could also use Slingbox. Slingbox is a more efficient way to steal away your own TV service. We have a place in the Carolinas and when we go there we just hook up my computer to the flat screen and bam!!!! You are viewing your very own TV service back home without paying for a TV service there. I also have the application on my I-phone as well. We have been out to dinner multiple times when the babysitter can't figure out my TV and I have had to launch my Slingbox app to get the right program on for the kids. Wouldn't trade it for the world!!!:ylsuper:

I also get a kick out of messing with my kids when I check in on them to see what they are watching. If I don't like what I see, I can just change the channel with my phone. LOL!!!!
