June 8, 201016 yr Nasty curve ball..the change up to strike out the last batter in the 1st inning was sick. Throwing a lot of balls though. Hit 100 MPH once during the 2nd in which he struck out the side.
June 8, 201016 yr Author He looks good. Gave up one hit and I think has 4 strike outs in 2 innings. Only thing is has thrown a lot of balls, hasn't walked anyone though.
June 9, 201016 yr I can't believe how much ESPN is hyping this up. The kid is good, but its not like he is going to transcend the game to a new level or anything. With all that being said, it looks like he is on the way to his first win with 11 K's.
June 9, 201016 yr 14 Ks and zero walks in 7 innings. Not a shabby debut given the hype and pressure on him to perform...
June 9, 201016 yr I'll say this. I think he'll be good but I'm pretty sure Dontrelle Willis received quite a bit of hype once he got here and we see how that turned out after hitters learned him, which in some cases take a season or two. If he can continue this for 2 to 3 seasons then I'll believe the hype, but not until.
June 9, 201016 yr Teams will adjust and we will see how he does over the course of the season. The hype is ridiculous and he can't do any better than what Mike Leake has done. What can you do, the media latches on to a story, they are going to strangle it death. As nice as this was, let's also remember it was the Pirates. I'm sure that went into consideration when choosing his 1st start, Homer Bailey looks like a Cy Young contender when facing that team.
June 9, 201016 yr Does this officially count as his Major League debut since it was against the Pirates? All joking aside he was impressive.
June 9, 201016 yr As nice as this was, let's also remember it was the Pirates. I'm sure that went into consideration when choosing his 1st start, Homer Bailey looks like a Cy Young contender when facing that team. That is a definite. Not simply to make him look good, but it was also a box office move.
June 9, 201016 yr That is a definite. Not simply to make him look good, but it was also a box office move. Agreed. Ain't nobody go to the old Navy Yard to watch Washington/Pittsburgh on a Tuesday night. Definitely was a good opportunity to get a good crowd on a bad night, and an opportunity for the kid to get off to a good start.
