June 9, 201016 yr No way I could narrow it down to just four in terms of UK greats. I would barely be able to do it if you said replace UK players for the Cambells Soup Cans in the Andy Warhol painting.
June 10, 201016 yr Issell- No brainer Mashburn- brought UK back to elite level Cawood- The voice of the Cats for 39 years Rupp- The reason we are having this debate.
June 10, 201016 yr Years ago if my Dad told me once he told me a thousand times, "Wah - Wah was from Harlan County son, like your old man." (He also talked about Willie McCovey playing minor league ball down there once) FWIW, my Dad was born and lived at Gray's Knob (sp?) till he was 15 and moved to CKY around '54. :thumb: Nice. Wah is revered in Harlan County. Best story I heard about him growing up was that Rupp basically kidnapped him to take him to Lexington. He went to visit Knoxville and UT and Rupp was irate. After that, Wah said he didn't have a choice where he went. Harlan High School probably had 30 kids in his graduating class when they won the Sweet 16 back in the 40's.
June 10, 201016 yr I think Coach Rupp has to be on the list. The title of the thread says UK Players...if we are doing UK as just athletics program...I go Cawood Ledford (Harlan Co boy), Rupp, Issel, and Mash.
June 13, 201016 yr Issel, Givens, Hagan, and Beard. I thought you hated UK and it seems like no Cat has ever impressed you?
June 13, 201016 yr I don't see how Tony Delk is not being considered to be on this mountain? I mean someone put Prince and there are no way I am putting Prince on there ahead of Delk. Issel is the only for sure one that goes on this list with a close Mashburn right beside him. Other than that many names could be considered but Kenny Walker and Tony Delk are right there beside them imo. # Player Seasons Games Points 1 Dan Issel 3 83 2138 2 Kenny Walker 4 132 2080 3 Jack Givens 4 132 2038 4 Keith Bogans 4 135 1923 5 Tony Delk 4 133 1890 Delk is top on list with points in NCAA tounry. Issel drops all the way on this list to 6th. # Player Seasons NCAA Games Points 1 Tony Delk 4 17 247 2 Kenny Walker 4 14 225 3 Scott Padgett 4 17 218 Issel 1st in rebounding. # Player Seasons Games Rebounds 1 Dan Issel 3 83 1078 2 Frank Ramsey 3 91 1038 Delk #41 in assist all time. # Player Seasons Games Steals 1 Wayne Turner 4 151 238 2 Tony Delk 4 133 201 # Player Seasons Games 3pt Field Goals 1 Tony Delk 4 133 283 2 Keith Bogans 4 135 254 I don't statistically see how you don't add Delk.
June 13, 201016 yr I am going with Issel,Macy,Mashburn and the other I am going to throw this out but I a have to agree with Cawood as a possibility but my fourth pick is the one and only Mr. Wildcat .

I agree you can't penalize Delk because he played all 4 years but you also have to factor that Issel and Mashburn did their damage in just 3 years. NCAA tourney records are misleading because in Issel's day a team only played 4 games if they made it to the Finals. Lot of noteworthy Cats and I can see some argument for TD but it's hard to put him above a lot of the others. :thumb:
June 15, 201016 yr I would have to put in a vote for Wayne Turner. I loved this kid, and it also helps that he played in more college bb games than any other player in the history of the game. He also made a fool out of Wojo..............little extra credit on that one.
