The Reds are one reliever short right now. Masset, Rhodes and Cordero are good but we need one more quality pitcher who can eat innings in the bullpen in a game like this. Herera is ok as a specialist. Lincoln and Fisher are crapshoots whenever they pitch. The Reds need Burton to get it together or Ondrusek - pitchers with stuff instead of nibblers.

 

Rhodes, I will give you. Massett and Cordero make me ill.....almost like Todd Coffey and David Weathers.

I am not going to go over board with this loss. They are not out of it by any means, but that's one you can't let get away. They will just have to bounce back. Not blaming Dusty, bc the pitchers should have been able to get outs, but he really should have had Rolen at 3rd in the 9th. You win some, you lose some.....that was just a little hard to swallow.

I'm not bashing Dusty, but he costs us this game. Why would send Lincoln out there for third inning instead of a fresh Herera or Fisher. Then you let Lincoln put four guys on base until you yank him. After the first two hits, he's out of there. Masset and Rhodes has to step up and throw first pitch strikes to hitters. Massett walked David Ross, mercy. Then Dusty did not replace Cairo with Rolen before the error and then especially after the error. Tis loss may be a season changer. This does not happen to playoff teams. :madman::madman::madman:

 

I said it before and I'll say it again, Dusty makes a lot of bad decisions in close games. For starters Cairo does not belong on this team. If you want to give Rolen a day off then play Janish @ 3rd. Janish needs the ABs more than Cairo does anyway. Cairo should be considered the emergency guy but should never get a start over Janish. Another thing that bothers me is if Gomes needs a defensive replacement (Heisey), then why does Nix not warrant one? How many gold gloves has he won that he should be in the game late when you have a young fast outfielder on your bench like Heisey? Why expect to get anymore than 2 good innings out of Lincoln. How about pulling him after the 2nd inning of good work and let him feel good about himself. Why pull Rhodes after he gets their toughest batter out. He has been equally tough against righties and lefties. He has been lights out. He also has to know now that you can't expect Massett to throw strikes in a tough situation. His mental game is all over the place. I don't know what you do about Coco other than tell him to quit nibbling around the plate and get ahead of hitters. He seems to be always pitching from behind.

Marty said on the radio post game that the ball to Cordero should have been played for an out to load the bases. Cairo had a double play ball right at him he bobbled it and threw it away. Marty said he did not know what to do with the ball. Janish would have!!! Also, he said that Nix could have caught that last ball, but bobbled it and when he hit the wall it bounced over. In fact, Marty's radio call was that in fact he had caught the ball until Brantley yelled it over the wall. The relievers did have their problems but the defense set the inning up. Dusty made two cruical errors. one, letting Lincoln start the ninth and then compounded the mistake by leaving him in way to long. Second, not taking out Cairo and Nix for defense. They are not starters for a reason.

No he's not joking. Go back and look at his numbers.

I'm not as upset about this loss as others. Keep it in perspective. It's a long season, and the way that we bounce back from this is much more important than the game itself.

 

This loss is just like any other L on the record. But, I think I feel the opposite of you. To give up a lead like that really hurts, IMO.

 

But like you said, definitely important to see how they bounce back from this.

 

This is one of those games that I hate. They didn't get beat...they beat themselves.

Baseball's a strange game. These kind of things happen from time to time, how quick they can put this behind them is more important than this one loss. Especially getting walked off two days in a row. Cleveland is nothing special this season and will be missing Sizemore. Winning at least 2 of 3 should get them back on track.

Let's liken this game to the Bengals losing to Denver last year on a fluke and hope the Reds move on from it just like the Bengals did.

Yeah, goofy things happen in baeball all the time. When something like this happens it is generally a fluke or requires a series of mistakes. It usually means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Heck, the 2001 Mariners, who hold the record for most regular season wins , blew a 7 run lead in the 9th against Cleveland. In a game where you can't simply run out the clock with a big lead you've always got a chance as long as you've got an out left. Games like this are flukes, otherwise they'd happen more often.
