I think that's asking a lot to rely on a rookie coming off major knee surgery....Of course, if they use their draft pick (8th I believe), on a guy like Patterson or Monroe, I think they'd be fine with them and Blake.

That setup never works. Great players can carry you a long way, but not all the way. How often does a great player or team go all the way without a coach? They often have strong-willed coaches like Phil, Pat Riley, etc. Cal aside, for Lebron to win he's going to have to have a coach, not a pawn. Whether that happens, we'll see.

The Clippers are a title contender with their current roster? I think not, they have cap space and would sell their souls to get LeBron, DWade or someone of that caliber. Even cheapskate Donald Sterling wouldn't be that crazy.

You know, money isn't the big issue for Lebron. I don't think he is going to go anywhere where they are looking to rebuild with Lebron. He doesn't want to rebuild, he wants to start winning championships, starting in 2011. This is why I'm thinking he is going to stay put in Cleveland. Unless another SIGNIFICANT contender can score him way cheaper than what he is really worth, which won't happen. Nobody is going to put together a better argument/deal than the Cavs. Another factor to think about which may not be discussed as much, is the level of competition between the eastern and western conference. I would think he would be smart in staying in the slightly weaker east. One could also argue that he would boost whoever he may go to in the west enough to tip the scale in their favor, but Kobe and the Lakers are still there so who knows.

I just got off the phone with LeBron, he said UK fans had nothing to worry about.... He's going to take the Lakers coach instead :lol:.

If Jerry Buss doesn't pay Phil his worth I wouldn't rule out this possibility despite Phil saying he'd retire if he wasn't coaching the Lakers. If Phil leaves or retires the Lakeshow is in trouble..... Big trouble.

It doesn't matter where LeBron goes pencil that team in for 50 wins easy. I don't care what team it is. If he picks a team with a great front office then you will see a contending team. I think it hurts Cleveland's chances seeing as how they never won the title with a front office desparately trying to make him happy. I really think he ends up on the Knicks with Donnie Walsh.

They have pieces that they can actually move in a trade for good players, unlike the Cavs. The Bulls roster is young, the Cavs starting lineup was older than the Celtics on average.

People keep bringing up that Lebron could get $30M more from Cleveland, and while that's true the argument doesn't make sense. He's not signing a 5 or 6 year deal IMO. He's signing for 2 years or possibly a 3rd year max deal if I had to guess. I think he ends up w/ the current Nets just not this year. Who knows what they'll be called when he ends up there. As a side note I think that's where Calipari could end up after two more years too.

I think Bron signs a max deal, with an opt out clause after year 3. He'd be crazy not to get a max deal though, given that salaries are going to shrink after this FA class.

And SSC, I think a sign and trade makes no sense for the Cavs if they lose LeBron. They cannot get equal value, and they'll need to start dismantling the team piece by piece. Adding Luol Deng or someone of that caliber isn't going to help them in the long-run. There is no sense to stay above the salary cap in a small market if you're team isn't a serious threat in the playoffs IMO. Without LeBron, no one is going to go and watch the Cavs, so why be over the luxury tax, when they could just start over and try to get another young star over the next few years? They probably won't get another LeBron, but that doesn't mean they cannot build a good, young team a few years from now. JMO.

That seems to be what you need to win an NBA title. Even Jordan didn't win titles till Pippen and then Rodman showed up. The second factor is you need an experienced roster of role players to fill in around those 2-3 superstars.

He doesn't need a max deal. He could sign a one year deal and still get more money from that team on a long term deal next year. There aren't many guys that really make more away from the game like he does.
