LeBron James Free Agency Thread

Featured Replies

He isn't off to the best start but I think it took MJ 7 seasons before he won his first title. Once he gets the right wingman to roll with him like MJ had Pippen, Kobe/Shaq, Kobe/Gasol, DWade/Shaq then he'll likely start his ring collection.

This is what will determine where LeBron goes. Priority number 1 in a new team - which team has a superstar that could be LeBron's sidekick. LeBron missed getting his first title in year seven, like Jordan but Lebron is 3 years younger than Jordan was in year 7. So time is on Lebron's side if he can find that superstar sidekick that even the greatest players need to win titles (including Jordan).

Cal said it again today he isn't going anywhere.

I'd say it is 50/50 he is gone. Just have a bad feeling about it this time.

Not going to lie, as much as I'd hate for Cal to leave UK, it would be quite entertaining to watch the ensuing meltdown of the Big Blue Nation...

Nah, it would be ok. UK would just go back to Memphis and bring in Cal's protege Pastner and the recruits would continue to flow to UK.

If Cal leaves for the NBA, after my initial anger, I'm going to rub it in to UK fans who gave me crap about the Cavs losing....I told them they should have been pulling for the Cavs.

Can Coach Cal recruit in the NBA? B/c IMO he isn't excatly the best X & O guy. In the NBA (IMO) that is the difference even if you have the horses. I like Coach Cal and I'm a UK fan, but I also know this to be true.

I can assure you he's better than Mike Brown, and look how close he came to winning at that level....

The NBA is managing talent and massaging egos. Coach Cal is generally good at that though at the NBA level he has yet to prove he can. However, he would only be the head coach in name only. LeBron will be the actual head coach of any team he plays on.

I don't disagree with you on that. However the bar is set low with that one.....

Lebron came out and said this is 100% false just FYI. They issue some kind of statement with his lawyer.

Not saying much.

I can't think of any worse than Mike Brown.

That setup never works. Great players can carry you a long way, but not all the way. How often does a great player or team go all the way without a coach? They often have strong-willed coaches like Phil, Pat Riley, etc. Cal aside, for Lebron to win he's going to have to have a coach, not a pawn. Whether that happens, we'll see.

They keep talking about the package deal of player/coach with LeBron and Cal....What about good ole' Larry Brown and LeBron to the Clippers? I think he'd be the type of coach that could work, and they have plenty of good young talent that would provide LeBron (and another max guy: i.e. Bosh) the chance to win right away...Just a thought.

They don't need another max guy. Davis, Gordon, LBJ, Blake G, and Kaman would only need some bench help and a good coach.

Agreed, but I think LBJ will want some say in who is coaching him. If Phil Jackson were to be hired wherver Lebron goes I'd guess LBJ would be fine with that.
