Is it? How many people would attend college just to get educated, if it didn't give you the necessary tools and paperwork to get a leg up when looking for a job, for a career?

 

I ask again, why should the John Wall's of the world worry about getting a degree when they'll make more money than most of us who have one by the time they're 25?

 

If they decide a degree, an education, is important to them later, Lord knows they'll be able to afford it many times over.

As long as they can make UK look bad then it is OK. Pitiful reporting IMO. Especailly by our own reporters.

I'm sure Wall and Big Cuz came to college to primarily earn a degree. Personally, I"m glad the team did so poorly academically. That tells me they were out living it up and having a good time instead of studying. Several players on this team are going to make more money than the kids, nay, nerds, who spent all their time with their face in the books instead of living it up with all the hot sorority chicks. Is life fair? Absolutely not, but somebody has to take advantage of that fact.

Sounds like Knight with a 4.7 (or whatever) GPA couldn't be coming at a better time.

You know what bothers me the most about all this? And it's not just UK. It's the fact that many, MANY college students only receive partial scholarships, or no scholarships at all and struggle to keep their grades up just to keep whatever aid they are able to get and graduate to make an average salary. College for most kids doesn't mean they're going to make a "better" salary. It means that they'll have that piece of paper that will get them an interview and hopefully an average job.

 

I know kids who graduated with teaching degrees, for instance, that haven't been able to find a job as a teacher. Some are now working in retail, and racking up more debt to get post graduate degrees to hopefully try again.

 

These athletes are getting a pass because "they'll be making millions" if they just somehow stay in school one year (minimum).

 

The priorities are mixed up. Colleges and Universities are academic institutions first. Athletics should be secondary, at the highest.

 

The tuition and fees and costs of a college education continue to rise. The athletes should not get a pass simply because they are talented, or that they are "forced" to be there because of the NBA rule. If a kid isn't serious about his education, let him play overseas and make that the requirement to fulfill the NBA's rule. There are plenty more real student athletes out there want a real education, along with playing their sport.

 

A winning athletic program shouldn't be what real fans of a school are MOST proud of.

That's my point, a lot of kids who go to college and make good grades can't get a job anywhere, so why bemoan these athletes who are going to be paid millions for playing a game. What's their motivation for going to class?

2.07 average? Looks like thats good enough to stay eligible to play. Which is all they and I are worried about. I dont care how good or bad they (or the guy who does their work) are doing as long as that GPA is high enough to stay academically eligible.
