April 26, 201016 yr Was Toby Gearhart a victim of profiling by NFL teams? http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms-gerhartstereotype042010 Race shouldn’t be an issue, of course, but Gerhart can’t help but believe that it has colored the opinions of at least some potential employers. “One team I interviewed with asked me about being a white running back,” Gerhart says. “They asked if it made me feel entitled, or like I felt I was a poster child for white running backs. I said, ‘No, I’m just out there playing ball. I don’t think about that.’ I didn’t really know what to say.” One longtime NFL scout insisted that Gerhart’s skin color will likely prevent the Pac-10’s offensive player of the year from being drafted in Thursday’s first round. “He’ll be a great second-round pickup for somebody, but I guarantee you if he was the exact same guy – but he was black – he’d go in the first round for sure,” the scout said. “You could make a case that he’s a Steven Jackson-type – doesn’t have blazing speed but he’s strong and powerful and versatile.
April 26, 201016 yr Author Because it will never happen to you.Happened to me and a lot more than once...
April 26, 201016 yr Author It has nothing to do with being on the left or right. How else do you profile? Race Sex Ethinicity Doesn't matter how you say it.Profiling isn't right! The way the left views the three you posted are always put in an evil, hateful light, which is really not the case.
April 26, 201016 yr Author What I criticize is the use of race or ethnicity to assess the probability that a random person is a criminal. In this case, a crime is not being investigated, but persons are randomly and baselessly questioned and scrutinized due to their appearance as being more likely to be criminals, i.e. “this person is black, he’s probably a criminal, if he is questioned a crime will likely be solved.” You seem to agree with my criticism of this, but then subsequently advocate it. That's absurd! The police may check out a black guy if he's in an area where a lot of black guys are committing a certain crime or a white guy that's committing a certain crime in a certain area but they don't just willy-nilly check you out for no reason. There may be a case or two, but overwhelmingly, no.
April 26, 201016 yr You have missed the posts about me being pulled over as a teenager several times in my youth because the police knew that teens sometimes did bad things at 2:00 AM on a Friday and Saturday night and I just happened to be a teen out at 2:00 AM on a Friday and Saturday night. They asked me who I was and what I was doing and then sent me on my way when I had provided them with the information that had sufficed their questions. That was not racial profiling.
April 26, 201016 yr The way the left views the three you posted are always put in an evil, hateful light, which is really not the case. I think you are the one that can't deal with the 3. So touchy when that is someone says something that does't go along with your way of thinking.
April 26, 201016 yr I can see it now. The police say that the suspect is a male... & CoachBuckett says: "Wait right there! You can't profile because of sex!" What buffoonery. :notworthy: You got me.
April 26, 201016 yr So, what the FBI does to find serial killers/criminals is wrong? I believe their job titles are profilers. I am not sure how they come to gathering that info, but I think that is based on habits. My point is, I live in America and if I am walking through an airport I shouldn't be stopped just because I may look like I am from the middle east. Nor should I be stopped because I look hispanic. Many of use on this board don't have that problem nor will ever experience, that is because of our race. So you may attack my views or thoughts. But the bottom line it is about race & ethnicity. But because it is the pink elephant in the room everyone is scared to be honest with themselves.
April 26, 201016 yr What about a black guy minding his own business stopping at a restaurant that is closed but they have a soda machine outside. He gets out of his car buys the soda. Gets back into his car drives off and then is stopped by a police officer. The reason the officer stopped him? The cop said it was because of the type of hat he was wearing! Want to know who the guy was? It was me. This actually happened to me. No one and I mean no one will ever convince me that I wasn't the victim of racial profiling. Maybe they pulled you over due to the fact that you were outside a closed store? Not exaclty normal to hang out in the parking lot of closed stores. I get profiled all the time, I have an old beat up truck when I drive it I get pulled over all the time for no reason at all, no lights out or anything, they just wanna see my insurance and check me out. If I drive my little van (grocery getter around) I never get stopped. We all profile.
April 26, 201016 yr I find having to fill that out racist as well. I guess it's to help prevent cultural biases in the future though. So that really doesn't relate to profiling does it? It's kind of the opposite, isn't it?:idunno: You can't make up you're mind can you? In the same paragraph you say its racist to fill it out then you go on to say it will help out to prevent cultural biases..... and yes it goes directly in hand to profiling. Just not the type to catch criminals.

Just not the type to catch criminals. No, my mind is made up. I think having to put your race on anything is stupid. But, I understand why they ask for race on standardized test. It is my understanding that they try to eliminate cultural bias by seeing how each group does on the test. So asking for race on a standardized test is an attempt to eliminate racial bias and racial profiling is a way to increase it. So they would be opposites and about as far away from being the same as can be. They both involve race, but one is trying to create equality and the other is trying to take us back to the 1800s. Is that clear enough for you or do I need to slow down and use smaller words?:idunno:

The reason on the testing that race is asked is because the schools are required to provide a certain percentage of their scholarships to minorities of certain races. The same statements can be made in reverse. Why are certain government contracts forced to be given to certain minority groups and mandated to do so by percentage? The reason is race. I know people are being cute and not answering directly the correlation between race and profiling. I am. Neither side can have it both ways. If you want the goodies that come with being a minority (and that is the issue), then I guess that being profiled comes along with it. Face the facts we all profile. I don't care who you are. And if you say you can't tell the difference between a white person and a black person, then you are not paying attention, and lying. Once you admit that everyone does look differently, then you can deal with the truth. It is when people try to pretend they don't see the difference in skin color that we slide down the liars slope. We all profile.

We all profile. We see it differently then. As far as seeing race, sure anyone who isn't blind can see a persons race. I don't think that anything should be based on race though. I don't think scholarships should have to be divided up or anything like that, because at the end of the day people are people. So yes I see race, but I don't want to judge people on it. I know good and bad people of all kinds of races, and the color of their skin, while it may help shape their individual identity it has nothing to do with the person being good or bad as most of us would probably agree. So if you want to define profiling as seeing race, then yes we all do it. But, if you want to look at profiling as a system for trying to prevent crimes, I think its crazy. While a cop is looking for people who seem out of place they miss 5 or 6 other crimes happening. There is no profile for crime. Thiefs come in all colors, shapes, and sizes. I'm pretty sure that all races commit murder. I don't think segregated housing exist anymore so how can a cop justify stopping a person of one race who is in a neighborhood prodominantly made up of another? Muslims are not the only terrorist in America. What am I missing?:idunno:
April 26, 201016 yr That was not racial profiling. Didn't say it was racial profiling. It is/could be age profiling.
