April 21, 201016 yr Seriously? What would be the reason to take UL over Rutgers? The obvious, more football and basketball success, more centrally located for the non-revenue sports, and U of L's pure dominance in every other sport.

I'm almost positive Notre Dame wanted in in the early 30s or 40s and the Big 10 did not want to add them. Then the Big 10 wanted them and they did not want to join. I'm almost positive that's how it went, but I'll check.:thumb:
April 21, 201016 yr FC, it was Michigan that was a huge part of keeping Notre Dame out of the Big Ten, which ND wanted to join a few times between the 1910s to 1940s. By the 40s I guess ND didn't need a conference.

Louisville was the #1 seed in b-ball last year. Cards went to a BCS bowl 3 years ago. Can anyone name the b-ball coach at Rutgers? Cards womens b-ball is on par with Rutgers. Louisville is a better fit in location. Cards beat Bama...
April 21, 201016 yr The Big 10 has already shown that they aren't interested in adding a 12th team simply to have a conference championship game. Louisville might be a better fit from a geographic and competitive standpoint, however, anyone who doesn't think that this expansion talk isn't monetarily motivaded is kidding themselves. Rutgers may not have a large NYC following per say, but I'd bet it is enough to get the Big 10 network added to the main tiers with Time Warner, Comcast, and Cablevision. Having a presences in the largest market in the country would be a financial windfall for the Big 10 conference. In my opinion the schools targeted by the Big 10 for possible expansion will be picked for a number of reasons but on field performance will be only a small part of it.

The NY market is untapped, and the state school of New Jersey could help that. The Louisville market is just Louisville. Do not look at athletic success. Look at potential money makers for a conference via alumni support. Rutgers has about 30,000 more students than UL.
