Accelerated timetable for Big Ten expansion

Featured Replies

Bug, nice point but the Cards have so much more history. Nice debate. I just don't see NY watching Rutgers very much.

But the Big Ten Network in New York City on a daily/nightly basis will open up even more interest from Big Ten alums. The New York market is as much about reconnecting with alums in the city as it is getting Rutgers.

In that case, why not get Cincinnati? Look, both stadiums suck compared to Big 10 stadiums.

SUCK? U of L's stadium will be one of the premier in the nation next season, even if it tops out at 56K.....also, Louisville would be the largest city in the Big Ten, population wise. They would rank between 8th - 9th in the Big Ten in stadium capacity.

Lots of talk about Notre Dame and Rutgers, but that's not what I'm hearing. I'm sure both would be in any "discussion" of expansion, but I'm hearing the most serious talks are with Texas, Syracuse, and Missouri.

"Suck compared to Big Ten stadiums." It may be nice and relatively new, but it is not a big boy college football stadium housing 85,000 - 95,000. That is all I am saying.

Louisville is bigger than Columbus? And I disagree about U of L's stadium, it's nice but one of the best in the country? Maybe but I don't know.....

Per Wikipedia...

Louisville Metro Area -- 1,244,696

Columbus Metro Area -- 1,773,120

Here's the thing with the Louisville Metro area...I'm assuming it contains a portion of southern Indiana. And isn't a portion of that area already Big 10 "country" with the Hoosiers being within what, 100 miles or so from Louisville?

No that is Jefferson County only. It does not include Southern Indiana.

Thought the population of Louisville/Jefferson County was a little over 700,000...so where's the other 500k coming from?

I just checked it, you're right that does include Southern Indiana.

Someone posted this on another board, if all this crazy expansion happens what do you think of this -

SEC East

Florida

South Carolina

Tennessee

Georgia

UK

WVU

Louisville

Cincy

SEC West

Arkansas

LSU

Alabama

Auburn

Ole Miss

Mississippi State

Memphis

Vandy

I love this. Great games with natural rivals.

I don't really care about that. If U of L is playing the way did in the Petrino era, "The Pizza Box" is a nasty place to play, and is a joy for the TV folks to cover. Site lines are fantastic, every seat is chair back, they'll be the only exclusively college venue with a pavilion, etc...it is a top notch facility regardless of capacity.

I have been to some of the biggest in the nation, Neyland, The Big House, The Shoe, and Notre Dame Stadium...they are unreal in stature, but they do lack in amenities, Louisville is hamstrung, both by, fan interest locally, and design. They do the most with what their limitations dictate.

Louisville to the Big 10 would make sense.

Can't see Ohio State wanting UC in, though.
