WARNING: There Is A Con Art Attempting to dupe college basketball.

Featured Replies

The average college basketball fan can understand these points. But, where John Calipari has succeeded is in his ability to blind Kentucky fans from comprehending. Instead, Coach Cal has instilled a new set of standards for judging achievement. 35 wins in a watered down schedule is not success. Returning a program from relative non-existence to visibility is not success. Playing an athletic style of basketball that fails to beat great teams is not success. Injecting a fanbase's psyche with NBA in waiting players who will stay in school as long as Carmelo Anthony but are not talented enough to deliver the goods is not success. Winning in the lowly SEC is not success. These so called "successes" worth heaps of praise from this helpless fanbase are fool's gold. And these poor fans think they've struck it rich. Because Calipari's team won 35 games, and made the tournament, and ran fast and jumped high until West Virginia sent them home, and was comprised of 18 year olds now interviewing agents, and dominated an again depleted SEC; because of these accomplishments, Calipari would have you believe that the season was a success.

A lot of truths, a lot of falsities, and a whole lot of bitterness.

Pretty entertaining rant.

Was this some U of L fan site? I have respect for all of U of L fans I know of on this board, but some Cards fans are nuts with their jealousy of UK. 35 wins is success I don't care if you play KCU's schedule. UK loses one game and all this stuff is true? Probably about 300 teams would kill for the success UK achieved this year.

I'm sure there were some valid points but I just couldn't concentrate for all of the garbage in there. Sure Cal gets alot of great freshman, and freshman typically do not deliver but that doesn't stop other players from trying to get the guys Cal gets. How many teams tried to get John Wall? Brandon Knight? DRose?

Ah, but I guess we all can have our individual opinions I guess. Sorry for the rant I've had an awful night.

Consider The Source !

It was a sarcasm piece laced with hyperbole intended by a Cardinal fan to incite Kentucky fans. Looks like it did its job.

Where you seein that?

Ouch....Uk fan or not, there are a lot of valid points in there,

Thru the other colored glasses.

Keep it coming!!:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

As a UK fan I can admit that there are some truths in there. What the writer failed to comprehend or admit to is that its a process to get back to where we UK fans expect the program to be. Getting people excited about the program (check) is part of the process. So, while the writer is correct that the 35 wins came against a relatively watered-down schedule he failed to understand the long-term goal.

I don't think it was intended to incite Kentucky fans necessarily, as it was on a Cardinal message board. I have not seen it anywhere else, so if its purpose was to stir up Cats fans, it has failed thus far.

Personally, I enjoyed reading the article. I thought it was well written and relatively well thought out. I disagree with quite a bit of it, but that's to be expected.

My question is whether or not this so called writer (who probably the closest thing he ever saw to a court, field, or anything else to do with athletics has to come from a video game console) will have the same outlook if the Cards football team wins 8 or 9 games this next season in a watered down football conference or will he be saying..."It's nice to be winning again". This was by no means a slap to UofL football as I want them to win every game but one each year...just that this "writer" needs to shut up, go drink his juice box and go back to his coloring and cartoons and let the grown ups have the computer again!!!

In retrospect, our schedule was indeed weak. But no one knew, in the pre-season, that UNC & UCONN would be as bad as they ended up being. And I think we need to remember what Jay Bilas said all year about there not being any clear-cut dominating teams in 09-10. The tournament validated what Bilas had been saying all year.

Logic like this would make sense, until you realize that other top teams--with the experience we lacked--left the tournament earlier than UK (Kansas, Syracuse, Villanova, Georgetown, Ohio State). It also ignores a team like Texas, who did have experience to go along with the freshmen upon which they heavily relied, and they tanked the entire 2nd half of the season.

The other reality the writer ignores is that the "average college basketball fan" would prefer the season/program UK had/has to the one in Louisville. Would you rather have a 35-3 season ending in a disappointing Elite 8 loss to a team that some argued should have been a 1 seed? Or a 20-13 season ending in an awful 15-point 1st round loss to a less-than-impressive Pac-10 team, seeded at #8?

West Virginia beat us because they outplayed us & deserved to win (I had them beating us in my bracket, BTW). But that also applies to 6-10 other teams with title/Final Four hopes--a fact the author conveniently avoids.

Gosh, I'm tired of being right.

Or did he think this when UL was the #1 overall seed & lost to Michigan State?

Agree completely with you. That UL team that lost was one of the best in the tournament, but they just had one of those days that teams sometimes have. It's what makes the Big Dance the Big Dance.

As a UK football fan, I'd much prefer to have the last two seasons Cincy has had. Did they play in a watered down conference? Compared to the SEC, yes. Still, they played in two huge bowls, and I would have loved to trade places with them.

Pure rubbish, this article. Pure rubbish.
