My question is whether or not this so called writer (who probably the closest thing he ever saw to a court, field, or anything else to do with athletics has to come from a video game console) !

 

Why do we denigrate someone for lack of athletic skills? Does it require athletic ability to recognize the 1-and-done mentality, the lack of the SEC being overly strong, and a weak non-conference schedule? Is there a certain vertical a writer needs in order to be qualified? Does he have to run a 4.8?

In retrospect, our schedule was indeed weak. But no one knew, in the pre-season, that UNC & UCONN would be as bad as they ended up being. And I think we need to remember what Jay Bilas said all year about there not being any clear-cut dominating teams in 09-10. The tournament validated what Bilas had been saying all year.

 

 

I prefer to deal with the actual quality of the teams as they were during this season vs how they traditionally are. The writer was correct in his summation of the schedule.

UK had on paper what someone would expect to be a really hard schedule. How many years are Louisville, UNC, and UCONN all bad?

It was a sarcasm piece laced with hyperbole intended by a Cardinal fan to incite Kentucky fans. Looks like it did its job.

 

It sounded like it was kind of an overly-sarcastic UK fan piece that never switched over. 35 wins isn't success? Everyone in the country didn't want John Wall?

UK was in the NIT last year and in year 1 UK is relevant again. Sure they didn't make the Final Four or win the Championship, but it was one season and it's not the last time UK is going to be a serious threat to win the championship.

 

Schedule may have been watered down, but UK beat an Elite 8 team in UT twice including once by about a million points. You know, the same UT team that beat Kansas and made a run in the toughest bracket in the tourney. Sure it was a watered down schedule but UK would have won a ton of games playing anyones schedule. And it's not like UK refuses to play people (UConn, UNC, U of L, and Indiana) those teams just weren't that good.

 

Oh and the U of L fan forgot to mention that part of UK's weak schedule was playing U of L. If the Cards were good this season that schedule would have been alot better.:sssh:

To be fair, I do not think the blogger who wrote the article is getting paid. He or she is simply a fan who took the time to put together a long-winded rant.

Basically, I think what this essay gets at is how one defines "success." I think that, given how "down" UK's program had been for the four or so years prior to Calipari coming, it's hard NOT to define this past season as a "success," since he and his recruits put UK back in the top tier overnight.

 

However, with that being said, UK fans will not settle for many more seasons without tasting real NCAA tournament succes (i.e., Final Fours and national championships). This basketball program, the winningest program of all-time, has not made it to the Final Four since 1998... that's an eternity for UK fans... Cal will have to "kick it up a notch" pretty soon, or else he too will be waking up to "for sale" signs being placed in his yard.
