This group of NDA students were some of the schools best athletes and best students. It is easy to see the trust and faith their parents placed in their ability to handle this trip. Unfortunately this tradgedy occurred and several are still in need of your continued prayers. Parents and other supportive people are now in Alabama and hopefully more positive news will be coming, but the best course of action for the rest of us to hope and pray for the best. Several still remain in ICU and will be there for some extended time. My heart bleeds for these families and I wish I could do more.

This really is horrible. Thoughts and prayers for the young ladies and their families, I'm sure that trip down to get to them had to feel like it was never going to end for the parents. Hope these girls get to come home safely as soon as possible.

 

Just a horrible accident, but remember folks BUCKLE THOSE SEAT BELTS! I was in an accident similar to this one where we flipped twice end over end and the only reason we all walked away was because we all had our seat belts on.

Like many of said before, it could have happened going to the movies or the mall. In this case, it just happened to be driving home from spring break.

It's very tragic, but I don't necessarily agree with this argument. Teenagers aren't the best drivers on earth, and it can happen close to home. But when you put them in a car driving for 7 or 8 hours straight or longer you just up the odds of them becoming tired drivers. And we are all worse drivers when we are tired.

 

Either way though this is extremely sad and deserves continuing prayers.

Talk about spring breaks and such is just that - TALK! When something this horrible happens, people try to make some kind of sense out of it - and they just CAN'T. There is no rhyme or reason. It just is.

Good news. The Downing girl should be fine. She has a couple of broken ribs and a bruised lung but is expected to fully recover.

Catie Ammerman is doing well & may be able to go home tomorrow.

 

Jessie Russo is in an induced coma, due to brain swelling.

 

Krista Noll had multiple fractures & underwent surgery this morning.

I have coached against Mr. Schaffstein in baseball going on 7 years now. I never knew him as a best friend, but when I saw the story on the news it sent a shiver down my spine. No one deserves that! On a side note my ball team full of twelve year olds have decided we will sign a card and probably donate flowers using team money. Pretty neat coming from a group of 12 year olds.

I read one or sometimes two newspapers everyday and it is very easy to become jaded by all the bad things that people do to one another on a regular basis. The depths to which people will sink for personal or ideaoligical gain are shocking.

 

Just when you think you are watching the world tilt towards the abyss, you witness a community comeing together like what has happened at Notre Dame Academy this weekend. Three prayer sessions were held on Saturday and on Sunday and each was more heart rending than the previous. As tragic as these have been, there is something uplifting to see peole come together to mourn the loss and celebrate life someone they may have known well or may have just been sharing an experience with.

 

Over the past few years I have witnessed way too many young people snatched away from promising futures. These have affected me, as an adult with teenage children, far more than I could have possibly imagined. After each of these I have two immediate thoughts: 1) how can a parent possibly make it through something like this; and 3) why does something like his ever happen.

 

After seeing the outpouring of emotion this weekend I am convinced that things like this happen so that everyone is reminded that despite the terrible things that we, as a people seem to be capable of doing to one another, we still have the ability and willingness to share an unbelieveable amount of love with people we barely know deal with pain and loss. While I pray with every fiber of my being that these young women recover from their injuries, I also pray that we never forget the sting of loss nor the feelings of love and the sense of coming together that has come from a tragedy such as this.

My niece died in the fall at the tender age of 21 which obviously led to the "why" questions. The priest said that it could be for a greater good which we've seen happen in our family. Maybe just maybe that's the answer to this young child's passing as well.
