I think UofL showing him attention last year is a big factor in decision. Yes, Cal called him. But he had showed no interest toward the kid for his entire career. It could be perceived (and maybe it is by Justice) that Cal finally called because of mass exodus in Lexington.

 

As for him not fitting in at UofL. Pitino is known for playing his entire roster. There have been plenty walk-ons play big minutes for Pitino over his career. He likes to have one walk-on on every team that can play a little. There will be two in state kids walking on next year, Phares and Justice.

 

I'd say that Cal only called him now certainly because of the mass exodus...and many kids would be put off by that. I'm a huge UK fan, but I think the kid is making the right decision. Coupled with the fact that as you said Pitino is known to play walk-on's and Cal doesn't care for them particularly, it appears to be a good call on Justice's part. Good luck to him.

The kid had a decision to make between 2 great schools, that's not a bad spot to be in.

 

I imagine he felt like he was somewhat of a backup plan when Cal offered a scholarship.

 

I like his decision to stay with UL.

Kind of humerous to me that Elisha Justice shows the ultimate loyalty to the University of Louisville, when they are not even committing a scholarship to him. I am not sure if Kentucky is offering a scholarship or not.

 

Maybe the Pitino camp has made a future scholarship promise to this young man.

Louisville already has a 5'10" PG coming next year in addition to Siva who will be a sophomore and I think they are still actively recruiting another PG.

EJ is a good player but I don't think he is in the same league as C-Lo.

 

When talking about players UK has missed out on from the state. I think we should start considering UK not going hard after Shelvin Mack as a bigger mistake than not getting Lofton....

Maybe so, but the Lofton sting was bad because all UK fans got to see him at least twice a season, 4 times coming back to Rupp. Both are hindsight 20/20 guys.

And Mack was more heavily recruited out of HS, is quicker, is a better defender, has a better handle, etc, etc.

 

Look neither of them were ranked where they should have been in their respective classes, but Mack is well on his way to being the better of the two at the college level. The only area in Lofton's game that I would say was superior was his shooting ability.

I like Elisha's decision to stick with Louisville. Tremendous character shown on his part by sticking with his guns and being loyal to Louisville regardless of their point guard situation. I hope he gets everything out of Louisville that he wants. I am sure a scholarship will open up for him at Louisville at some point. Good luck to him and Richie Phares.

I agree, UofL will have 3 Ky boys next year. Knowles, Phares and Justice. I too think Justice made the wise choice for him and his goal of wanting to coach.

I like Lofton as a college player better, but I think Mack has alot more potential for the NBA. Both players should have been at UK. Mack would have helped out alot this year.
