That Mason County team also had a little something that no one in the state has this year.. Or any other team in the last six years! It's possible to win a state title when you have a shooting guard like Mr. Lofton. Without a player like him, I would think it's almost impossible to win a state championship with such an undersized team.

Ballard might be on its way. Jones at 6'3" is its tallest player that plays as a forward and they look to be heading there.

Let me ask a simple question and I will try to use words with less than five letters.

 

Who was defending Hicks in the Ballard vs Shelby County game that was played this afternoon during the Sweet 16 that is held at the end of the season in Kentucky?

They rebounded, blocked or affected shots and defended as if they were all taller than what they are. They took Donovan Johnson out of the game offensively and turned him into a wing player which was impressive seeing how Johnson was the tallest player on the court. He did little to no damage in the paint offensively.

Hard to believe he is that young. He gets his shot off so quickly from behind the line and can get to the cup.

 

This was by far best game of the day. Both teams had decent leads during the 4th quarter but Shelby couldn't hold their lead. Foul shots a big difference and some of Don's untimely fouls.

 

While memories (especially mine) can get cloudy over time I thought Lofton did most of his damage coming off hard screens and picks. I remember him being a good ball handler but what I remember best he could get the shot off in a hurry and had unlimited range. He had a great career at Tennessee but I always wondered what kind of legend he would have built under the old Bobby Knight system at Indiana that made Steve Alford so great coming off a series of hard picks and screens. Either way he was one of the most enjoyable players I have ever watched and that goes back to the late 1950's.

Jones with a very good game. His 9 out of 10 FT shooting was huge. One of his 8 field goals here.

 

I was told by some Shelby County people that Hicks lives in the new Collins district.
