I agree. KU and UK got the toughest roads for the final 4 especially given that they were supposed to be the top 2 seeds.

I didn't see the selection show. Did they say UK and KU are the top two #1's? I assumed Duke was the top #1 since they are playing the winner of the play in game.

So why is Duke getting the winner of the play in game? Shouldn't the #1 overall seed (Kansas) play the winner of the play in game?

The NCAA always is wrought with suspicion in my mind. Nobody in this state seemed to mind when UK got easy hoops brackets when the President of UK Dr. Otis Singletary also headed the NCAA.:taz:

 

Also the SEC isn't represented in hoops, but is more than taken care of every single year in football.

 

Face the facts, this tournament, like everything else is political in nature, and ruled by cash.:banana:

Do you think that committee is smart enough to come up with the storylines the first few rounds produce every year? Pitino vs. Duke? Cornell and Temple - Student vs. teacher?

 

The tournament has them every year and I dont think it's coincidence. Matchups are done to bolster ratings. I read somewhere last year or the year before that TV ratings records have shown Duke's TV ratings drop by nearly a third when they play out west. So what does the NCAA do? Send Syracuse west and keep Duke in the South. Maybe that explains the seeding flip flop.

 

You can kid yourselves if you want, but there is no way CBS invests that much money into the tournament without some input.

I believe Wisconsin deserved a 3 seed over Pitt. They beat Maryland, Duke (they would have won the ACC this year!), Ohio St., Purdue (with Hummel), and Mich. St. just to name a few teams.

This Cuse zone is much more difficult than normal because of their length and ability to close out from all 4 perimeter spots. When they have had trouble in years past it was because they lacked one or both of those factors. Shooting over them is very, very tough this year...

 

Bingo. Its about talent. Syracuse has much more of it than Vandy.

 

X's and O's are overrated. Stallings could coach circles around Boeheim and still lose to this Syracuse team. A 2-3 zone isn't rocket science. Its a "safe" defense generally. But, when you have the length and athleticism of the Orange, it becomes a difficult matchup.

One title with Carmelo Anthony, one of the best players in the league.

 

I worded that wrong, I apologize. He has obviously proven a lot in his thirty years. The point I was attempting to make is that I believe Stallings is a good enough x's and o's coach to beat the zone that Syracuse plays. And you know without a doubt the reason everyone has talked about Syracuse is because of that defense.

 

Its not about Stallings knowing how to beat a zone. When the game is played it comes down to whether his players are talented enough to carry it out. I doubt there's a coach in the tournament that doesn't know how to attack and exploit a 2-3 zone in theory.

Talent, yes. Coaching, I don't think so.

 

What has Boeheim proven? That he can really teach a good middle school defense?

I don't think Vanderbilt will go to the Final Four. I never said that. However, I do think a team like Vanderbilt and Stallings is someone who can really do well against Syracuse's zone. And considering Pittsburgh beat Syracuse, it's not like Syracuse is that much more superior to a team with a good defensive philosophy and ability to beat the zone.

Boeheim has proven more than most major college coaches can even dream of proving. It may be a middle school defense but very few teams at any level can master the zone. Syracuse has an unbelievable zone, and Boeheim is an unbelievable coach. I think Stallings is a good D1 coach, but he isnt an elite one. Boeheim is.

 

As for our Road to the FF, I really dont think its that tough. I think we are very well prepared and can easily make a run.
