He has made Vanderbilt an SEC Power, a school with academic standards that are much higher than Syracuse.

 

I'm not going to say I think one is better than the other, but I think Stallings will be able to prepare his team for the zone that Syracuse runs better than most coaches have.

You may be right and this may be the only time in my life that I have ever cheered for UL if they end up playing Duke. IMO Duke has the easiest bracket and I just cant figure out how this happened. Kansas and Kentucky have the hardest road, and I feel that the CUSE should have been the number 3 #1. Seems like the Dukies have the road to Indy paved for them. Oh well just ranting.

It sure seems like they set them up rather nicely, but I think the Cardinals beat them.

Considering they finished second this year and are consistently in the top 3 of the SEC and are making the NCAA tournament, I would say yes, they are.

 

They've fared much better than Kentucky and Florida over the past few seasons, and they certainly don't seem to be declining.

I don't think Vanderbilt will go to the Final Four. I never said that. However, I do think a team like Vanderbilt and Stallings is someone who can really do well against Syracuse's zone. And considering Pittsburgh beat Syracuse, it's not like Syracuse is that much more superior to a team with a good defensive philosophy and ability to beat the zone.

This Cuse zone is much more difficult than normal because of their length and ability to close out from all 4 perimeter spots. When they have had trouble in years past it was because they lacked one or both of those factors. Shooting over them is very, very tough this year...

But getting behind their defense appears easier this year to me, which IMO is why they will get beat by a team that runs a good motion offense with lots of ball screens.

Their one weakness is certainly defending the short corner, but ball screens really haven't hurt them at all. We'll find out soon enough...

The second round match up worries me more than any other match up in this bracket. Besides that, I think UK got a a pretty good bracket to be in. It will be nice when Louisville has their new arena open, and start hosting some tournament games. UK would actually have a chance to play right next door for a change.
