It is pretty obvious if you don't play for Mason county your feelings and what is said about and to you don't matter...at least some think that way! I think that is a lot of the problem with this whole thing. Mason County was given a gift many years ago in the form of a large gymnasium. Instead of using this gift to further the lives and enjoyment of many it is being used to further the causes and desires of a few. it is a shame too because this place would have tons of potential.:idunno:

Let's look at the "tradition" some of the young men from GRC will have the pleasure of being a part of, Corey Rogers was called "Radio" by the student section of Mason. For those of you that don't know Radio was a young mentally challenged African American who happened to have a movie made about his life. I assure you this act was a fine display of tradition! Something I would be proud to never graduate! Then there is Vinnie Zollo, as fine a young man as you will ever meet, the tradition rich Mason county folks chose a goofy picture he made and used it to embarrass him during a huge game in his career, wonderful tradition I have to admit. These are a few of the traditions Mason County should be proud of. On top of mistreating guests in your house what other traditions are you so proud to boast about? Hopefully all of these traditions will not go unnoticed by the powers that be in Clark County School system and when the new high school is built, we may have the opportunity to build a facility large enough to host regional tournaments. Maybe we can start traditions that result in good memories for all involved, not just the select few who are geographically lucky enough to be our neighbors. If this is what ungraduated proud tradition is, I would give it a GED and send it on it's way! Yes Mason fans you have a lot to be proud of! But sometimes the score on the board is not your greatest accomplishment!

To be perfectly frank, I care nothing about the jersey. My belief all along has been that it was simply misplaced. I am sure that Mr. Zollo is a fine young man. I am also sure that Mr. Rogers is a fine young man. Is he any less so because the jersey says 44 instead of 41? I doubt it.

 

My interest lies with "the case of the waylaid trophy"; not the jersey. I have it from an impeccable source that not only did the Clark County team not want to come out to accept the trophy on the court, but that they were told while back in the locker room not to forget to take the trophy with them. Sounds like they wanted no part of it. Last time I looked, Clark County has a fine team, but this isn't the 1972 Olympics and they didn't get jobbed at the end of the game.

 

While I haven't agreed with isthatallyougot a whole lot on this thread (mild understatement), his observation that the trophy should be sitting prominently where the players can see it is spot on. Man up, accept the trophy, and do something about it next time the opportunity presents itself.

I mean come on, I graduated in the 80's, no use to continue disliking them just because of feelings/rivilaries from the past. They have a strong tradition in basketball and more recently in football (we usually beat them like a drum when I played). This was one of the years I was maybe gonna bite the bullet, particulary because of players like J. Lang. Then I realize I just can't do it. Not because of their winning basketball program, or the hallowed fieldhouse (and the homecourt advantage), not because of the over salty crappy popcorn...No, it's because of the fans and supporters, particularly some of the ones I see posting on here over and over :puke:

I'm sure you will all miss my support, but rooting for Mason Co. will have to wait at least another year for me. I hope you get sent packing in a hurry. I'll have to look N. Hardin's school colors up, have to be dressed for the part.

Sorry! I have to pull for the 10th region. I think the draw was very favorable for the 10th region. It is not going to be easy, but the bottom bracket is definitely the easier route to the championship game.

Absolutely could not agree more!!! Go North Hardin!!!! I hope Mason County gets beat by 50!

 

By the way, North Hardin is Blue and White also, too bad it will look like MC has more fans than they really do!!!

We have a smart bunch of kids that understand their roles, accepted them, and while I wish no one injury it might have been something that made us better. Players like Bluford, King, and Black who saw very little time last year(Bluford) didn't play last year and it made us deeper in the post season along with our mighty little guards and a darn good head coach and his staff were all recipes for success.

Just for clarification, the Ledger corrected their jersey error in today's paper and named the proper owner of the jersey along with a nice picture.

 

I did also ask several of the students why the "radio" chat. I was told that they borrowed that one from the Fleming Co. cheering section when they played Clark Co. If I'm not mistaken, these kids were former classmates of Mr. Rogers.

 

As for the picture of Vinny Zollo. It was a very attractive picture that Vinny himself has on own facebook page. There was nothing written or drawn on the picture as you can see in a picture posted somewhere on this site. I'm sure that these young men should be used to this sort of thing. If not they should be because I'm sure it has happened before. Treg Setty listens to it every game. If you want a discussion about nasty cheering sections, you should take a close look at Pendleton County. I saw them play in both the district and regional tournaments and it was the same in both places. The fingers were flying and the things that came from their mouths would definitely get you banned if you typed it on this site.

Your impeccable source would have to be member of the GRC team, coaching staff or manager. Thoses were the ones in the locker room. I am sure you have not talked to them . Again the above bolded is not true and was not said. The trophy was taken into the locker room by a player and given to the coaches. The boys took thier individual plaques with them. Whey didn't they leave these too? Was it left by mistake? Mason fan are trying their best to convience everyone it wasn't.

 

Papa you say you wish no ill will on any player, but yet you are trying to lay blame on the boys for leaving the trophy in just a few sentences above these words. No ill will intended....dosn't look that way to me. "Jersey Story" From my view point, that is what you intended.

The person that wrote the article was not a sports reporter. She probably doesn't know Vinny Zollo from My Cousin Vinny. It's possible that she made an honest mistake instead of printing a blatant lie; just as it's possible that the items in question were left behind by mistake. As previously stated, a retraction was run in today's paper. Again, I never did think the jersey was a big deal.

 

My impeccable source is definitely impeccable. I stand by that, and I stand by the opinion that when the trophy gets back to Winchester, as it inevitably will, it should be prominently displayed as an incentive for next year.
