The person that wrote the article was not a sports reporter. She probably doesn't know Vinny Zollo from My Cousin Vinny. It's possible that she made an honest mistake instead of printing a blatant lie; just as it's possible that the items in question were left behind by mistake. As previously stated, a retraction was run in today's paper. Again, I never did think the jersey was a big deal.

My impeccable source is definitely impeccable. I stand by that, and I stand by the opinion that when the trophy gets back to Winchester, as it inevitably will, it should be prominently displayed as an incentive for next year.

In any event, many were treated to a great game. :thumb:

It was not a mistake, but blatant lie. Where was the retraction? Front page? Still waiting on a link. I want to see it for myself and see what it says.

Impeccable source, was not in the locker room, how would they know? I know that a player gave the trophy to the coaches. The players were NOT told to get the trophy. They may have been told to get thier individual plaques, which they did. What I don't understand is why you and others, have made a big deal of the trophy being left, instead of celebrating your win??? As I stated earlier, your players and coaches deserve better.

Before it comes to a end, could you give me the link to the retraction?

I did also ask several of the students why the "radio" chat. I was told that they borrowed that one from the Fleming Co. cheering section when they played Clark Co. If I'm not mistaken, these kids were former classmates of Mr. Rogers.

This is not true in the least. :ohbrother:

It's not on the website it's in the newspaper. Send me your address and I'd be more than happy to mail you a copy. Actually a nice picture, appears to be taken after they washed it, in the wash room. No big article, just a small paragraph under the picture. Does it really matter whose jersey it was?

Also I didn't say that Fleming and Clark played this year, I said in a previous game. :thumb:

Oh and by the way, my reliable source about the spitting and water is myself. You see, as I said before, I was sitting behind the coach and trust me there isn't anything wrong with my eyes. But I will say it again, I can't wait to come to Winchester next year to watch the most well behaved student section ever. I might even take a few pictures myself. :thumb:

Why not, the big front page article was online yesterday.

We haven't played Fleming Co in a long time. What year would that have been?

The paper much have thought it was important enough to print Zollo's name, when in fact it wasn't. They had the jersey there and could varify the #, but chose to print a blantant lie.

Impeccable source said it hapened.

On the Cards’ last possession Robbie Stenzel’s pass intended for Jaylen Daniel in the open court was deflected by Trevor Setty and the Royals recovered as time expired, sending the Mason County contingent into a frenzy.

It seems as though all newspapers make those honest mistakes. This was copied from the Winchester Sun "Maysville Miracle" article. I may be old, but I do believe that Trevor Setty graduated 2 years ago. That the person they are actually referring to in this article is Treg Setty. :idunno: I'd never been on that website before but it is actually pretty interesting.

Daddy doesn't have a scanner or I'd scan that picture for you. But the offer to mail it still stands.

Who is your source that said the student section was spitting and throwing objects at your coach? No such thing happened, I stood behind Coach Humphrey the entire game and I believe I would know if any of this nonsense happened.

I get Trever and Treg mixed up sometimes too. Big difference in stating the jersey was Zollo's when they had the jersey there and could look in the score book and see it was in fact Rogers.

Still waiting on the year that we played Fleming Co that these students supposedly yelled this at our team.

I think we've established that poor ole tradition can't graduate because he moves around too much! Gosh we had some hold backs in our day but eventually all our boys graduated! This tradition fellow not real smart or what?

You really gotta have tradition, before you can understand it.

400! Had to do it... Already counting down the days until these two get to meet again!

You really gotta have tradition, before you can understand it.

Like I tried to make clear in several posts, if what Mason has is tradition you can have mine! I'll take good old fashioned decency any day!

They didn't print the picture of the jersey because they knew it wasn't Zoll's. They blatenly lied.

I try to stay out of these things, especially when a thread gets off track as far as this one, but this statement and the crazy idea that somebody at the Ledger is trying to run some kind of smear campaign against Vinny Zollo is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.

I'm a sportswriter at the Ledger. I wrote the story for that game and pretty much every other Mason County game for the last three years. The writer of that article, while a very good writer and a former sports writer elsewhere, wasn't at the game and I doubt has ever seen this GRC team. And since I didn't see the original mistake and whether it was in the story or in the cutline on the picture, I couldn't tell you whose mistake it actually was. For all I know, they could have been given the wrong information to begin with.

To be fair, any number of people involved in the process could have simply come to me and asked who wears #44 for GRC or could have looked it up on the KHSAA website and we wouldn't have this problem. I don't know why that wasn't done if they weren't sure, but I can tell you with 100 percent certainty it was an honest mistake. As much as you'd apparently like to think that there's some conspiracy in Maysville of big powerful people trying to make Zollo look bad, I can assure you it's just a case of somebody who has no idea who Rogers or Zollo is and didn't take the time to ask.

And it doesn't get rerun in its entirety on the front page because that just isn't how it works. It's unfortunate an error was made, and the paper is more than happy to correct it, but nobody in the history of newspapers has ever done that, and nobody ever will.

So let me get this straight. Everybody mixes up players who are three years apart when one has been graduated for two years. When somebody who has never seen the team play mixes up jersey numbers, it's a "blatent [sic] lie."

Glad we cleared that up. Double standards are fun!

Mason Co. fans lets stay off this thread, arguing with a person over something so stupid. We all know that this person is stating false information just because they ended up on the losing side. Lets be the bigger people and just let them talk to each other about the excuses that they make up. Afterall, don't we have bigger things to worry about like the game vs North Hardin? Oh yeah, we have a game in RUPP next week! Lets Go!
