Additionally, there’s roughly 2/3rds of nearly $800 billion in “Stimulus Funds” floating around somewhere just waiting to be applied to something that will STIMULATE our economy… not fatten the pork intended to get Dems reelected after they fall on their swords for ObamaCare. $10 billion out of over $500 billion is chump change. If funding these 2,000 worker was really important to the Dems, they could have funded the request with "walking around money" already available. Instead, they want a naive populace to believe one old Republican is to blame. Sadly, too many are falling for it. This is shameful.

Your whole point becomes mute when you throw out the suggestion that only Dems are fans of or tout pork projects to get votes. Also he is the only person blocking it by not allowing it to get to a vote. PayGo or not it shows just how out of touch you are when you complain live on CSPAN about missing a college basketball game when people are out of work and having their unemployment benefits end. :idunno:

That isn't going over to well in my county where the unemployment rate is now 16% after 539 workers lost their jobs when a GM plant of 33 years closed their doors some six months after two other places shut their doors. It only took my cousin three months to get his first unemployment check because of some red tape involved. Things were promised to the workers by corporate that never materialized. No medical care for their children, because the unemployment check is just above the limit for state medicaid.

 

Hoist Bunning on your shoulders and buy him a beer if you want but the people here have already been through enough with their claims, late payments, lack of medical care, etc. They need a legislator to go bat for them. Not knock them down with a brushback and then suddenly say it needs to be paid for when he didnt have a problem with an extension a few months ago. Of course, it's likely he doesn't even remember that vote.

I don't blame him for being ticked he's having to sit with a bunch of knuckleheads that don't understand or intend to follow the rule they just made law two weeks ago.

At least Bunning has his priorities straight. He fought like hell for his David to receive a lifetime federal judgeship position a few years ago. This was after the American Bar Association deemed his son unqualified and did not endorse him. Time for this "has been politician" to move on down the road. Dems and Repub used to work together, now it's all about just trying to filibuster and stop the other side from getting anything done at all. Just take a look at the cloture count these days compared to 20 years ago.

He is simply trying to show the hypocrisy in Washington (which he has been a part of). So, let's not have a lynch mob after him either.

 

Sixteen days prior, the Dems pushed the Paygo Bill, and Obama was behind it 100%. Now, when someone stands up and says, "Didn't we just say we weren't going to do this to the American people anymore?" he is vilified as being so horrible.

 

How dare he actually try to enforce Obama's policy.

 

This resolution will pass, and maybe now the American public will actually know what Paygo is. And will look to hold our government to it.

Had the stimulus funds been spent, wouldn't there be less unemployed people? Isn't that the theory? So either get the stimulus funds out there and creating jobs, or use it to pay for the extended unemployment benefits. I've had my disagreements with Jim, but I think he's making some sense on this issue. What am I missing?

Exactly. I thought the idea of this administration was about change? We can't keep doing what we've been doing and expect the results to be different. He wants it paid for, I say great. Pay for it and get the benefits flowing.

Yes. But, it's a temporary measure designed to keep the benefits (unemployment, Medicare, DoT) in place until the full bill can be voted on. Filibuster that bill if it isn't paid for. This is such a goofy move right now. He has demonstrated the Dems recent arguments about the filibuster.
