Reds sign Orlando Cabrera

Featured Replies

Should be a very big offensive upgrade. I'm very excited about this season.

This has to be considered a positive move. $3m is nothing for an established offensive shortstop. Even if he doesn't have the same range and arm when he was a gold glover in 2007 he can still help this team. He gives them a veteran presence in a lineup that appears to still be very young. Annually he is among the leaders in fielding % and plays a full season. I don't know what kind of locker room presence he will be but Scott Rolen is already there to hopefully play a big role in his first full season with the team. The only negative that I have heard on Cabrera is that he did have some controversy with Ozzie Guillen in Chicago in 2008 but Ozzie never pulls any punches when dealing with players. That should not be a problem for "Crusty Baker" but then again "Crusty" is "Crusty".

They had to do something. There's still too many question marks elsewhere for them to stand pat. Janish is a slick fielder, and I like him, but they can't wait on his bat this year. Hopefully this buys them some time. I like the deal.

Not a horrible signing for the Reds, he is a consistent player who does well in the NL.

Cabrera was huge down the stretch for the Twins last season. His signing has to be considered among the top reasons the Twins made that run to catch the Tigers the last month of the season. I really enjoyed having him on the team and I think the fans in Cincy will too.

He serves as the ducked tape shortstop for the Reds. I like it.

Glad to see this move and think it'll be helpful. But the Reds are going to need to find their long term answer at SS in the near future.

Like to see them get Gomes now. This team has more pre-season potential than any recent Reds' team.

I like this for this year.

I like it, shows some progression for the TEAM.:thumb:

I like the signing. I'm ready for some baseball.

Cozart, Valaika & Frazier are all options at SS. Frazier is the best hitter, but also the least likely to actually play SS.

There is also a young Dominican player in the minors, but I forget his name. Rojas maybe?
