I came to KY in 1985, and admit that I knew nothing about basketball when I got here. My older brother (6 years older) decided to root for U of L in 1986, so I picked Duke. We all know how that turned out. That said, that's my earliest memory of Duke, and then there have been awesome ones since then. What's yours?

I wish I had some memories from the early 80's. I missed out on a lot.

The '96 Wildcats... In particular, the Antoine Walker shimmy. It was my dad that got me watching them when I was 8-9 years old. I never cared for sports before that point. RIP, Dad.

I watched Dayton play Purdue in the first round of the 1999 tournament. The Flyers lost that game, but I remembered a lot about it. I enrolled at UD three years later.

 

My first Louisville memories are earlier but patchy. Bits and pieces from tournament games and suck from the early 90s on. But my first vivid memory is of the 1996 tournament loss to Wake Forest. That's the first game I remember huge chunks of and individual plays from. Still don't care for Tim Duncan.

 

Looking back, the fact that my first memories are based on losses really says a lot about the ever-present pessimism I have when it comes to sports despite an optimism about the rest of the world around me... interesting.

My first favorite team was the 1966 Wildcats, runner-up in the NCAA tournament. I actually started following the Cats during the Cotton Nash era, but really became a big fan with Rupp's Runts.

Was a Steelers fan and got to meet Rocky Blier. Also got my picture with him at the 84 Lumber Grand Opening in London. Our little league team (the steelers) getting a letters from Chuck Knoll when we went undefeated 2 years in a row and won the championship.

Not my earliest memories but some that I'll never forget.

Mom kept talking about some guy named Kyle Macy before the game...everyone was talking about a guy named "GOOSE" after the championship game.

Kyle Macy era...I used to wipe my hands on my socks in Little League Basketball and wore #4 (as did one kid from EVERY team).

Unfortunately the '92 game is the first vivid memory I have of the Cats!

I'm an old guy but it was always football and baseball. College basketball was not something I watched at all until I was in high school.

 

Maryland playing South Carolina (who I believe was in the ACC at the time), 1970 or thereabouts. Halftime score was 4-3. Terps hold the ball for an eternity in regulation and game goes to OT. South Carolina leads by 5, MD scores on a layup. Just a few seconds to play, SC with a 3-point lead (no 3-point shot at the time) and the ball, MD makes two straight steals and converts two layups to win the game 31-30.

'78 Championship team. I got to stay up late and watch the Cats win and I remember it vividly. I sat on the couch, wearing my new blue and white striped pajamas. I was 5 years old. I can just barely remember the game but I can still see those pjs! :lol:
