All I know is that it makes two years in a row a rookie QB has guided his team to the conference championship. Aside from Big Ben back in the day, leading the Steelers as a rook, I cannot remember rookie QB's being able to step in and have this kind of success.

 

I think it proves that if you have a really strong defense, there's not as much pressure on those Rookie QB's... JMO.

Tell that to the Colts, Vikings, and the Saints...

 

Basically if you run and play great defense, it does give you a chance. However also leaves you very little room for error. You basically can't have any room for mistakes, because playing that style also will never let you get a comfortable lead either. So far the Jets have been able to play basically mistake free football. I think only one turnover, and they have taken advantage of opportunities when given, and have not missed field goals when given the opportunity. So yes that style can win, but you basically have no room for error either with that style.

 

Didn't the Vikings and Saints out rush their opponents though? I'm not sure about Indy, but I don't know if a team that has had the most rushing yardage in a game has lost so far in the playoffs, unless it was the Colts.

 

I don't have stats (too lazy tonight) but I think that has been a constant so far. Maybe I'm imagining it though.

Defense is a constant. But, I think QB's are more important than running games. Generally, the teams that can do both are the last ones standing.

 

True, the best formula for winning is being well rounded. As far as QB's go I don't think it's constant enough to bank on it. Manning could have a bad game next week, but the Jets will probably still be able to run the ball somewhat. Running games don't usually get taken away, unless you run up against a team that is just alot better IMO. Alot of things can mess with a passing game. JMO.

 

Also, I realize that the Jets lack of a passing game will cost them the Super Bowl most likely. You have to do both, but I still think that a team is better served in the playoffs to be good at running (if they had to choose only one).:thumb:

You may be right. However in the Saints case, they had that one big run by Bush. Also they got up by so much, that they got to run the ball more. While the Cardinals were forced to have to try to pass. Same thing in the Vikings game, Vikings basically dominated that game and made the Cowboys have to pass. While the Vikings could run the ball some more, even though they still decided to pass while up a lot. :lol:

For those of you who believe the Jets are only here because they are lucky and "backed into" the playoffs:

 

If the Jets are able to beat the Colts this week, would your opinion change at all? Or are the Jets still a lucky team who don't deserve to be where they are? I only ask because I have several friends who believe no matter what happens the Jets don't deserve to be where they are. I want to see if others agree.

I don't think they are like the Cards last year other than being Hot. The Cards have the scariest 1-2 combo at WR in the NFL when healthy. Add to that Warner, Breaston, Dansby, Dockett etc and they are a very talented team. They were flat out explosive on offense last year.

The Jets are probably not the 4th best team in the NFL but they are top 10 I think. It is a great example of old school football vs new school when you look at the Jets vs Indy/NO. The Jets have a really good Oline and 2 RB's that can pound it. They are patient running the ball on offense because they know they don't have to take chances with their defense being so good. Revis is like Deion. He can flat shut down your #1 allowing you to do a lot of things. The Jets are great at holding you 1/2nd down then gettiing you in a predictable passing down on 3rd down. This is where they kill teams! Overloads, exotic blitzes/zone blites etc. They hurt good offenses by controling the clock. Sanchez protects the ball and it's hard to beat them.

They can hang in with any team but if a team gets up on them they are very capable of getting beat bad because it takes them out of their gameplan. SD got up but could never build a big lead to force them to pass the ball.

Obvioulsy they are good on defense. I like Keller, the Oline and run game. Cotchery is consistant but they aren't explosive at WR. Smith gives them a wrinkle. They are good enough to win this week but I think the Colts get into managable 3rd downs and throw on early downs. Their run game has been pathetic. I think people that didn't see the Ravens game understimate the changes on defense this year. They were VERY physical vs the run in that Balt game and also the Tenn game.

True. But, the flipside is that the defense and running game formula generally means you're in tight games. That means, even if Manning (or someone else) has a bad game, all they need to do is put together a couple of drives and they could possibly steal a game that you've dominated.

 

I think we're making too much of the Jets based on the win in San Diego. It was a nice win for sure, and they deserve credit. But, they would have almost certainly lost if Nate Kaeding hadn't choked. That's just dumb luck...nobody can predict when a kicker will have a meltdown.

 

This week they go to a tougher venue to face the best QB in the game. They can't rely on dumb luck and without it, I don't see them beating the Colts.

Their defense is great and that is why they are still playing.

They have a great defense, but the Chargers choked big time. This may be one of the worst teams to ever play in an AFC championship game. I'll bet old Rex will be crying buckets after this one.

If you can only do one thing, then its never enough to bank on it. I'm just saying, if I have to choose, I want Peyton Manning and Average Joe instead of Average Joe and Jim Brown. JMO
