Why doesn't Pittman play in the paint more? Also, is it just me but does Holmes not run any type of offense other than, "I am going to try and get my shot, if they double me I might pass it, or I might jack it up anyway." So much talent to struggle so badly at times on offense.

 

 

I wish I knew the answer but Henley has 13 years on me as a HC. They seem to put 4 on the perimeter and pass until someone decides they can take their defender, it isn't very pretty to watch.

Yes, They seem to do that alot, there half court sets seem to have no rhyme or reason to them and then someone justs hoist a jumpshot. I don't like it, don't understand it, but 36-2 last year I really can't argue with what Henley does.

 

Princeton looked alot more fluid in there half court sets, until late in the game when Pittman would come from the post to the free throw line and screen for Rico. Ric would then dribble drive and he had JJ in the corner, Eli at the foul line, or he could go to the basket with it. They ran that like 5 possessions in a row and it looked really effective, then once they got back in the game, they went right back to standing around.

Pittman seemed to be frustrated tonight in the paint, the kids #3 and #21 from Princeton were playing very physical with him down low and Eli looked to the refs on several occasions, almost pleading for a call. After he realized he wasn't going to get the call, he just went down and stood on the block with his hands on his knees, or he went outside looking for a jumpshot or something off the dribble. He really has improved his post game this year, but his effort and attitude is still a bit in question.

 

I am a huge Holmes fan but I am very critical of this team because I know how good they can be. They beat themselves in alot of the games they lose, or don't preform well it. Its really a shame because they could have beat Princeton tonight, they should have beating Mceachern, Ga. and they had every opprotunity to beat Ballard.

Congratulations to fellow GMC member PRINCETON on the big win tonight over one of KY's best, the Holmes Bulldogs! I am so mad, I wanted to watch this game and I completely forgot it was on TV. Gotta check the schedule to see if it will be replayed again.

 

I'd like to say that's payback for Highlands win over St. Xavier this past fall but I won't...the GCL can fight their own battles. This is just continued GMC excellence on display for everyone.

 

Both teams will be playing late into their respective state tournys, no question.

I was really impressed with both teams. Yes I wish Holmes would have one, but they beat themselves with all the mental mistakes. They showed that they have the grit to come back when down. This team will not quit until the clock its triple 0's. Siebert is a good player but it seemed like all he wanted to do was shoot 3's, when he tried to drive either Rico or JJ was there to stop him.

Princeton is pretty good gang. I think many of you are selling them short. They play very good defense. They pressure the ball and were excellent in help defense.

Holmes on offense, runs a little of everything. A lot of it is simple motion. It is not flex or anything like that, which has more structure. They will run some passing game with a bunch of cutters. Heck some of it looks like the dribble-drive.

Another thing, it makes them difficult to scout.

 

Princeton was cutting off a lot of their drives, and collapsed hard in the paint.

I give Princeton a lot of credit.

Holmes played very hard a came up a little short.

Entertaining game to watch and a pretty nice crowd for a 6 o'clock tip.

Since Princeton is not nationally ranked, we have to assume much like last year that they would not be in the top 20 in Ky. A horrible loss by Holmes. Just being consistent with the bluegrass preps postings.

Hate to see the Bulldogs lose another one... Hope these don't become confidence shakers for the postseason.

All their losses have come to good teams this year. I don't see many teams in Kentucky able to keep up with Princeton like Holmes did last night. Until they are knocked out completely, Holmes is still the favorite to win state in my opinion.

I have only seen Pittman play twice this year, but the two times I saw him, I was not impressed. I really thought he would be a dominate player this year. I think he has more raw talent than the R. Johnson, but I don't think he has realized that potential yet. Don't know the young man, but it seems he lets other teams/refs distract him from playing the game he is capable of.

 

I saw him play AAU 2 years ago, he was an absolute stud. Played against a player (can't remember his name) who was headed to Tenn (I believe). Pittman absolutely abused him. Played strong with the ball and owned the glass. The player I have seen so far this year, does not resemble the young man I saw 2 years ago.

When Pittman plays hard this team is scary good. He can make this team go. He plays with a lot of emotion that can get in the way. In my opinion Holmes is missing that outside threat right now to force the defense to extend. With no one to shoot the ball defenses can sag to prevent penetration and take away Pittman in the post. Not that they have too many flaws. That Princeton team is very good and Holmes gave them a heck of a game. Holmes will roll through the 9th this year.

Princeton is ranked #36 according to ESPN Rise top 50 and carry a higher rating than any team in KY and higher than #46 Bowman Academy that Holmes played earlier this season who is rated #1 in Indiana

 

This was far from a horrible loss, Holmes showed alot of character and played hard for 36 minutes... Princeton is loaded and if anyone thought Holmes would win this one easily they were wrong. Princeton were state runner ups in Ohio's D-1 class last year and should be playing in it again this year.

I agree with Neerfan. Holmes has been unable to replace Riley. It usually takes a Holmes fan to recognize just how much Riley contributed last year.

ASgain I agree with Neerfan about Holmes offense. They throw it around outside until someone either makes a one on one move or they take a three. They are not famous for their three point shooting without Riley out front.

I saw Carlisle County's offense and either Henley does not run it at Holmes or the Holmes players do not run it the way it is supposed to be run.

Earlier in the year a GRC poster posted about the lack of depth on this team. He surely got that one right. Holmes has several players who just take up space, miss shots and throw the ball in the general direction of a teammate. If this does not change, I don't see much chance for post season success.

On the other hand, Holmes does play excellent defense and they help each other better than just about any other team I have seen.

Princeton is very well coached. Beating Holmes on their floor is no small task. Their ability to run a few plays and their shot selection was far better than Holmes.

I have to agree about the Princeton coaches hair.
