Anyone losing weight?

Featured Replies

I'm terrible at sticking with diets and exercise plans, but I've been doing a lot better since the New Year (no, I didn't make a resolution, because I never stick to them -- other than the one about cutting back on beating up old ladies and little kids). In the 11 days since New Year's, I've rode the exercise bike seven of them, and I'm starting to notice a few differences. If I can stick with it and avoid fast food places -- not easy because of my job schedule -- I can drop a lot of weight in a hurry. Problem is, when I fall off the wagon, I can gain it back even faster.

I saw a woman on t.v say she lost 20 pounds by just cutting out DIET drinks. A medical expert on the show says the artificial sweeteners increase cravings for real sweets and may effect metabolism. Anyone else out there lost weight by cutting out diet drinks?
I've heard this too; but don't buy into it. I lost over 90 pounds this past year, and drink diet drinks all the time.

We have been doing the weightwatchers diet. I lost 6 lbs. the 1st week and the wife has lost 4.5. It's not bad at all. Now if we can just stick to it and get back to walking regular once the weather breaks.

Congrats. Weight Watchers is a good dieting plan if you can stick with it and limit portion sizes.

I have now lost 10 lbs. in 14 days on weightwatchers. :D

I am going the opposite direction. Today I started a 10 week bulk cycle. Trying to gain at least 15 pounds. After 10 weeks or the 15 pounds I will start a cut cycle.

I am 6'0 and hover around the 185-190 range. In a perfect world I would like to be 175.

The toughest thing for me is that I travel a lot. I have noticed it is wayyy more difficult to eat right and exercise going from hotel to hotel.

This is true. The sweetners in diet drinks do indeed have an effect on insulin release, which affects cravings. Brett Favre said he lost some 20 pounds during the offseason a few years ago and the only change he made was cutting out all soft drinks and drinking only water. I haven't tried to lose weight simply by cutting out diet drinks alone, but I'll bet you would lose some.

On January 1st, I weighed 318 pounds. On the 3rd, I started a more-or-less Weight Watchers type of system, and began walking at the gym at 5 a.m. with an accountability partner. My wife is also doing this at home with me. As of this morning, I have lost 20 pounds and feel much, much better. I have a 240 pound target by the time of my 20th reunion on October 1st (potential death did not motivate me, but vanity did), and an ultimate target of 205 (I am 6'2", they told me that 185 was ideal but they can go suck eggs). I also have purged my beard, 82,000 e-mails from the computer, and I'm going to purge some unnecessary debt. Purging is purging.

^I am 6'2 and I weight 210 and I feel fine with it and look fine IMO. 185 for someone that is 6'2 will look very very skinny.

Congrats. The beard purging was not necessary! :taz:

That's funny.

I'd like to lose maybe 15 pounds. Wife and I started on diets. Depending on the MRI results of my back, I hope to step up the exercise routine a bit. I swear, I eat/diet great up until around 9:00 p.m., at which point serious munchies sets in. It also doesn't help that I stay up late hours, plus have insomnia, and will occasionally snack during the night. Tough habits to break . . . On the bright side, I've never been much of a drinker, so not much of an issue giving up beer or anything.
