Whatever the Bengals do with the draft or FA offseason. This coming season will be pivotal for the franchise. They either build on the success, or go back to Bungledom like they did after 05. They need to put a couple of good seasons together, or no one will take these one off years as anything but fluke.

Your right this is a huge off season for the Bengals. I really hope they are not content with how things are. Yeah they were a playoff team this year, however if they don't make many changes this off season. Then they might just win 5 games next year. Here is what they need to do IMO:

 

1.) Sign Zimmer back.

 

1A.) Fire Bob Bratkowski. He has been the offensive coordinator here since 2001 when Dick Lebeau was here. Its time for a change. If they want to save Palmer's career and really re-energize this offense they will do that.

 

2.) Have to get more talent a receiver. I would definitely try to trade for Brandon Marshall. I would try to just give up a 2nd round pick at most for him, but if it would take a 1st I would do it. The Bengals have a young team, they can afford giving up a 1st round pick for him. Your going to pay a lot of money for a 1st round pick, so might as well make it with someone who has proven theirself.

 

3.) Get a TE. Once again look at Denver and try to get Tony Scheffeler. I think I heard he is on the trading block. He is a good blocker and catches the ball very well. I would give up another draft pick if I was them. They are such a young team, they really can afford to do that with this draft and give up some picks.

 

4. NEW KICKER!

 

5. Need to draft a safety somewhere in the draft if they can...

 

6. I think we only signed Benson to a two year deal, so just go ahead and get him to sign an extension this offseason and don't take a chance of waiting till after next season.

Josh Cribbs. Solves more problems than one and would be an unbelievably huge addition to a team that struggles to score points. Offer some draft picks and pay this man!

Please. Feely didn't have trouble. As Theisman pointed out, Graham doesn't hit the big ones. Two within 30 yards is absolutely inexcusable, and cost the Bengals a chance to tie it up, or win, at the end of the game. He needs to be gone...

I know I won't be complaining. The dude missed a 35 and a 28 yard field goal. He's a professional and deserves to be cut/not resigned. Good luck on another team Graham, but quite honestly as a fan, I don't really want you in Cincinnati blowing games when we actually do put together a solid playoff team.

Bengals aren't going to pay him $2.5 M. He's simply not worth it. Is he bad? Not at all. But he's not special. And you simply can't miss little gimme kicks like that in a playoff game when that is essentially your only job and you're getting paid that kind of money. And he's not particularly effective on kickoffs either. He's a slightly above average kicker in a league full of slightly above average kickers than can be - and should be - easily replaced.

He may not ever kick again. Anyone who has followed him over the last few years will know he's missed big kick after big kick. My guess is he has money saved up.

The neds that need to be addressed are:

 

1) WR - need a #1 or #2 in the worst way.

2) S - They need a solid young safety that can step in and play right away. Crocker and Williams are getting older and they need depth anyways. Taylor Mays comes to mind.

3) OL - I know this group is young, but they need to get someone in there that can sure up the pass protection. Palmer is rushed way too much.

4) LB - Need depth here. You could see the huge drop from Rey to the 2nd string. A unit of Rey, Rivers, and a Spikes kinda player would look great for years to come IMO.

5) KR - This is the easiest to address IMO. Sign Josh Cribbs. He'd also help out in reference to #1.

6) K - Graham is terrible, always has been, when the kick means something. Let him walk, and bring in someone like a Stover. Indy isn't going to keep both him and Vinateri next season.

#'s 1, 5, & 6 can be addressed most effectively through Free Agency IMO.

 

A trade of a draft pick (say a 2nd rounder), may be enough to bring in a guy like Marshall or Boldin. Cribbs seems to want out of Cleveland, and the Bengals obviously would give him plenty of opportunities to see the field with their lack of production at WR.

Cribbs really wants out of Cleveland but I thought he was a FA this year? I don't think he is the answer at WR if you are looking for a #1.

TE is a bigger concern than half of that list. I agree with the rest though.
