I believe UK has now had black head coaches for Men's and Women's bball and football. I wouldn't think many BCS conference schools can say that.

Interesting that WLAP said Mitch was talking contract extension and pay raise with him this weekend.

All 3 big schools have Head Coaches in FB. UK,WKU and UL.

UK was the only school in the SEC with 2 African American coordinators (and one of the only ones in major D1 conferences in the country).

 

I am sad to see Coach Brooks retire. I was one of the few who supported him all along, and I took a beating those first 3 years. I am glad that, for once, I was right. He did a great job at UK and exceeded expectations. And on top of all of that, he has the respect, love and admiration of his players. A good coach and a great man. Sad to see him go, but appreciate all he did to 'Restore the Roar' to UK Wildcat football. Some HUGE wins in his tenure and he did it the right way.

The man certainly knows his football and also he was good for UK because he had the experience at Oregon of bringing a cellar dweller to respectability.

 

Retrospectively, he was a lucky hire for Mitch Barnhart.

I'd say he will be heading out a lot more to Oregon although he says he is keeping a home in Lexington as well.

 

I bet his golf game gets a lot better! He has a good traveling handicap right now.

I hate UK as much as anyone, but there is no better man or coach out there than Rich Brooks. I will miss him, he almost made me cheer for Kentucky from time to time, well ok I did cheer for him and the football team occasionally, and it was all because of Brooks. UK might go another 50 years before they find a coach like Brooks, just like after Bear left.

Awesome job coach Brooks of building the program the right way and making a solid foundation for Joker to build upon. You were the right guy at the right time for the job and you did it with class. We will miss you and hope you will stay connected with UK.I think the thing I liked about him the most is that he always shot straight with the media and told it like it was.

I was wrong about Brooks, even joking that I wanted him to stay forever.....he did a great job.....now come the Joker era.....wonder how that'll work...

I did not agree with the hire when it happened but always defending giving Brooks a chance after he was here. Nothing I hate more then a program that hires and fires coaches every couple of years. UK gave Brooks the time he deserved and he made all UK fans proud. He will be greatly missed.

 

I also don't agree with giving Joker the job, and thought it was a bad idea when they named him HC in waiting. However, it is what it is and all UK fans need to give Joker their support. I hope he can continue to build on what Brooks has done here. One positive is Joker has been apart of building UK into what it is so I think he will work extremely hard to achieve the continued success.
