I think there must have been some inquires, and if not, some were likely because Kentucky had one of the most explosive and efficients offenses with Woodson and the clan and that is when Joker got the HC-in waiting deal.

 

I, personally, do not think there was any doubt that if Kentucky wanted Joker as their HC when Brooks was done, they could have gotten him. In the time period from his Woodson era to now, he would still be at a very small college and Kentucky would be a step up.

 

I think the administration jumped the gun and got worried whenever there were inquires. Still, it is what it is.

Maybe Joker should hire him as his OC...... Leach may need a year or two before becoming a HC again?????

That would be an interesting move. But I don't think that will happen for three reasons:

 

1. Leach was tied to old coaches at Kentucky that didn't leave on exactly the best of terms. He is also not the ideal "spokesperson" for Kentucky. Sure, OC is out of the limelight compared to HC - but still.

 

2. He will get a HC job somewhere.

 

3. Randy Sanders has been all but guaranteed the position, from what I understand.

 

Now, I have personal feelings about the situation as well:

 

1. I think the spread offense is the offense of the future. The teams that win and garner the most attention are the spread offenses: Florida, Cincinnati, Oregon, West Virginia (under RR). However, it can be stopped and without the proper athletes, it will be tough in the SEC.

 

2. I would like to see Leach on the staff simply because his offense was so prolific. Not only does it put butts in the seats, it also draws in recruits who like to score, score, score. I also think that with just the commands of the offense, Leach could be successful. His downfall, as everyone says, is his defense - something he wouldn't have to worry about as just the OC.

 

3. I would like to see how Randy Sanders does as the OC. He was Phillip Fulmers scapegoat at Tennessee when the offense wasn't running well. He obviously knows what he is doing - or so it seemed with the Woodson era. I think Sanders deserves an opportunity to prove himself at that position.

Stick1, Do you think Sanders will get a shot at OC? I thought that was the plan?

 

I don't know anything about it. I think I would take somebody with proven experience if it were my first job. I will say that I know people really close to the program and the rave about Sanders. They all love him as a person and say he's a really good QB coach.

My $00.02 on the Coach. I live in the state so I know as much about him as the strongest UK Fan, and I loved listening to his Monday nite radio show, his Post game show also. He knew his football.

 

Getting the job with the problems facing him and standing by his coaches and team. Listening to the UK fans complain about him and him slowly building the team. Beating LSU was a huge win.

 

I was always worried playing the Cats.

 

Coach sticking by his Field Goal kicker as he missed some very key FGs and PATs. And the kid turned out to be an outstanding PK.

 

Losing your most experince QB abd still winning two huge away games.

 

Team never in trouble with the NCAA.

 

B-Ball is still #1 sport.

I wish him good luck in his retirement. He was first class all the way and did a heck of a job. He'll be missed, I hope the University takes him up on his offer to stay involved and uses his knowledge in some capacity.

I meant to say something about Brooks. He's a class guy, straight-up and honest. He inherited a tough situation and left the program in much better shape than he found it.

 

Is he the best coach in the SEC? Probably not, but he did a pretty good job and managed to establish some badly-needed credibility for the program.

I wonder if he got a taste of what UK basketball is like and did not like the difference in priorities.

He touched on a couple of the things he wanted done in his presser today.

Brooks made UK fans actually look forward to football season instead of them looking at football season as a nuisance prior to the start of basketball season. To do this with a football team that had been a doormat for so long at a school where basketball has reigned supreme for so long is something everybody should respect and appreciate.
