UC 71 UCONN 69

If they want to call the attempted reach around at the elbow, I could by that, but not on an out of control player coming into the lane.

Agree to a point. He was out of control because of the reach and contact at the elbow, and then Edwards got him on the arm low before getting him clean up top. If they call the first foul it helps UConn because there is around 1.3 left and they can get a better look...

I understand call the game from tip to buzzer...but Stephenson was out of control going into the paint so much he fell down after the shot.

Edwards didn't even leave his feet and got mostly ball.

To me that is one of those advantage-disadvantage calls...

Player is out of control and will force contact based on reckless drive...there will be some contact because offensive guy is causing it.

But, home teams get those calls.

If he called it up top, bad call. The most obvious foul was the reach with about 1.3, but Edwards did get him twice before getting the ball clean up top.

BTW I call garbage on letting a foul go on the last shot because the stripes "shouldn't decide a game". If they let the call go, that is exactly what they did any way you slice it. Contact is contact and a foul is a foul. Period. Drives me crazy...

If it's a foul, you call it. To me, it doesn't matter if one team is up / down 30 or if there's 15:00 or .15 to go.

There was some contact, but it came off to me as more of a bail out than anything. That was my biggest problem with it. But so be it. Stephenson knocked down the FT's and that was clutch. I just wish he would've missed the 2nd one.

Certainly was an odd line being that UCONN is ranked 10th.

Mick was screaming his head off for Lance to miss the 2nd but the Shoe was loud and Lance was in the zone so he didn't hear it. Go back and watch it if you have it saved. Mick is as far out as he is allowed to go and yelling as loud as a leprechaun can yell trying to get his attention...

It was Vegas being smarter than the voters. UConn is 20-30 good, and will show it as Big East play unfolds. Dyson is fantastic and Walker and Robinson show big in flashes. Other than that, they have a LONG way to go...

I didn't DVR it, but I did hear the announcers commenting on it. Mick was out of TO's and wasn't able to call one.

I can't help but chuckle every time I think of Mick screaming at his team. Your description fits my imagination / thought process perfectly.

True :thumb:.

Huge win by the Cats. I didn't get to see the game but did see the highlights and I was surprised the reach around wasn't called but the contact in the lane was.

Either way, a win is a win and Lance still had to knock down the freebies. If Cincy can get consistant play like this, they can make a nice run in the league.

Syracuse and West Virginia have both looked tough but are very beatable and will be exposed once they get in the tough part of their conference schedule.

You have to miss the 2nd one. When there was a 5 minute break for the replay didn't anyone tell him if you make the 1st you miss the 2nd?

I was at the game and the only time the crowd got involved was w/ less than a minute left. It was weird, but we knew most of the people were in New Orleans.

Nice all around game for the B Cats. Vaughn was stroking it early, and Lance played a very complete game as well. Cinci deserved the win IMO.

At that point you let the players decide the game, swallow the whistle refs and play it to overtime. That being said, huge win for Cincy.

I agree. I hate to see a call like that to decide a game. The player was out of control on the drive and he himself had to initiate some contact, one way or the other. Michigan won a national title in 1989 in the same manner, on a ref's call with a few seconds left in the game. Let those iffy one's go in those situations. Let the players decide the game.

Again. He was "out of control" because he was hammered on the arm by Dyson reaching in. Then contacted on the shooting arm by Edwards on the way up before getting blocked cleanly up top. If the whistle is swallowed, it is no different than making the correct call. Either way the ref decides the game...

1. Edwards clearly fouled Stephenson with his left arm. The left arm was wrapped all the way around Stephenson's chest with his left hand hanging on Stephenson's shoulder. Liken it to a DB in football reaching around the receiver to swat the ball while he is hanging onto the receiver with his off arm.

2. Absolutely you have to call that foul. If you start letting fouls like that go, then the last ten seconds of games start turning into MMA brawls. If it is a foul on a shooter it is a must call. The whiff on the steal up top would have been a cheap call but the foul on the shot had to be called. And I don't care if the shooter is completely out of control, has his eyes closed flipping it backward over his shoulder. If he gets grabbed like that, it is a foul.

3. The ref clearly blew his whistle on the Edwards foul. The female announcer kept going on about when the ref's arm went up but you have to listen for the whistle.

4. As to missing the second free throw, I believe U Conn still had a time out left. If you miss, they call the TO and it is no different than making it except you are only up by one. I say make the free throw. Force a three to beat you and if they get a 2, it is OT.
