Who is this generations Adolph Rupp, John Wooden, Dean Smith

I was just reading espn.com article on Tom Izzo and it reminded me how much Izzo really has accomplished at Michigan State with 5 final fours and a national title. So I got to wondering who would you put at this generations legend for all time coach. I mean you have Izzo, Coach K, Roy Williams, Bill Self (he's still really young so he could win a few more), Billy Donovan, Pitino, and possibly Calipari (if he can win the big one at some point) in the discussion, so who would be the coach of our generation?

It is very hard to not recognize the level of accomplishments that K has attained at Duke. I guess numbers alone, he is at the top of the list. I love everything about Izzo though.

Probably the three (3) that come to mind (and the first 2 are painful to say)

Coach K

Roy

Izzo

Been to multiple final 4s, have at least 1 title each, etc.

While I'm not personally a fan of Rick Pitino's, I don't think you can have a conversation about possible basketball legends without including him. Unfortunately, I think he's scarred the history books a bit with his behavior, but when it comes to basketball... he has to be up there.

I hate to admit that Coach K belongs in the probable category as well. Izzo, without a doubt. While I don't care for Izzo's tendency to whine a bit too much, he's a coach that I would have minded seeing on the sidelines of the big blue. Calipari - definite possibility he could make a place for himself as a basketball legend. He's behind the other names mentioned though - still needs some things to add to his resume IMO (although I'm confident he'll do just that!).

Does Calhoun fit in here? Fewer Final Fours but 2 titles.

Current coaches who are the elite IMO:

Coach K

Roy

Pitino

Izzo

Donovan

Bobby Knight could be thrown into the mix with the Smith and them.

Roy Willams

Coach K

Calhoun

I like Donoavan, but I can't put him in the same list as the other 4. IMO he just had some really solid recuiting classes there for a few years and the question is referring to an entire generation of basketball. Pitino would likely be at the bottom of my list of those 4; hasn't won a title in a good while, and his teams have for the most part seem to be underachieving.

Plain and simple: Tubby Smith.

By that lists standards (multiple championships, not just Final Fours), I'd say Coach K, Roy Williams and Jim Calhoun.

Billy Donovan has two titles, but I'm sorry, I just can't include among a list of coaches like that right now.

I forgot Calhoun but he definitely belongs in the discussion, you could make an argument for Boeheim too although the loss the other day dampers his name some.

Bobby Knight could be thrown into the mix with the Smith and them.

Yes I agree with you.

I think the next level guys who are knocking on the door are:

Calipari

Howland

Jay Wright

Sean Miller

Bobby Knight could be thrown into the mix with the Smith and them.

:thumb: My five, also. Yes, Knight definitely belongs with Rupp, Smith, and Wooden.

I like Boeheim and think he is a really good coach. I don't think this exhibition loss does anything to him though. He has some bad losses, but come on, its Syracuse...lol, who wants to go up there and play? He is fantastic I think.

If Coach K can get another Title I think he'll get it. If not I'll pick Roy Williams.

Billy Donovan has two titles, but I'm sorry, I just can't include among a list of coaches like that right now.

He also took a team to the championship game in 2000, losing to Michigan State.
