Yeah but you could argue a mobile QB is better in college. The big arm makes a difference on Sundays. It is tough to say, I do agree Pike has the experience but Zach makes the D-Coords prepare for yet one more thing...

 

You could also say that when Pike is in and UC goes 5 wide, empty backfield they are almost impossible to stop because he has such a quick trigger and can make every throw in the book. It makes UC almost impossible to defend, and they were putting points on the board in under 3 minutes on almost every drive...

When they interviewed BK after the game it left no doubt that Pike isn't going to start in the near future. If it ain't broke don't fix it, Zach is the real deal and the future looks bright with him behind center.

He was very clear in the post game presser that he hasn't decided and that the decision would be a tough one...

If I'm Kelly, I don't make, or at least announce, that decision until game time Friday night. Make WVU have to prepare for both QBs, because the offense is completely different depending upon who he picks.

BK didn't announce Pike was out for UL when he knew he had a hard cast from his wrist up over his elbow and had zero chance to play. Safe assumption...

My big thing is "if" UC would have been up big tonight they would have tested Pike being on the field. Now that the game is over, why would you go to Pike. Who are you going to bring him in against (WVU, Illinios or Pitt) and when?

 

If you bring him in against WVU and he struggles against WVU then do you go with Zach or stick it out with Pike? Will Pike's timing be off? How will the offense respond with two contrasting styles at QB against a good team?

 

My thing is this, the offense has rallied around Zach. It gives them a multiple dimension. As of right now, I would stick with Zach.

Because at this point Tony is the better all around QB. Sure they can give some different looks because Zach can run the ball, but his arm isn't nearly as strong and it limits the number of routes available all over the field...
