The Cincinnati Reds Offseason

The economics make it a lot better. You can certainly do a lot worse he is 25/90 in the bank. I just hope we get 425-450 at bats.

He hasn't hit 25 homers in a season since 2004 and he hasn't had a 90 RBI season since 2006. At this point you're much more likely to get 15/80.

As long as he's hovering around .300 he's a big upgrade.

The Reds & Dodgers have had some discussions regarding Aaron Harang, but they seem to have died down. Apparently the Reds were not satisfied with the Dodgers offer, which included George Sherrill.

The Reds wanted another major leaguer. No names were included, but the Dodgers have a decent SS prospect who seems to be a popular choice.

If we get Sherrill and that prospect, I would be extremely happy.

If he plays the majority of the season GABP will help that cause.

The injuries have taken away a lot of his power and the lack of table setters won't help the RBI totals. He's still a good player but at this point you can't say he's 25/90 in the bank.

The Reds signed a local boy, Josh Anderson. He played his high school baseball at Pulaski County and college at Eastern Kentucky. He's been with the Astros, Braves, Tigers and Royals previously.

I like it. Anderson has lots of speed, if I remember correctly.

Originally I thought we were going to re-sign Gomes, but now I'm more hesitant. I still think the Reds are the odds on favorite to land his services, but I'm not as confident anymore.

The fewer at-bats he gets, the better off the Reds are. Anderson is, at best, a fifth outfielder with good speed and defense. He's basically Juan Pierre Lite.

Definitely not a big signing, but someone who can contribute. I think his signing pretty much seals the deal for Taveras.

Don't be shocked if Taveras starts the season with the Reds and Anderson is in Louisville.

Does he still have those pictures of Dusty doing something he shouldn't be doing?:D

If Tavares can find a way to steal first base he will help the team.

As they always say, you can't steal first.

The Reds signed a great young arm who played for the Angels. Jose Arredondo. Arredondo was signed to a minor league deal. He's about to have Tommy John Surgery, so he won't play until 2011.

Arredondo is 25 and went 10-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 53 games in 2008.

A great move. The Reds' staff is shaping up to be absolutely EXPLOSIVE for the next few years.
