AAU in Northern Kentucky

7th grade knights beat 8th grade Tri-State Warriors

8th grade Jets beat 8th grade Gators

That's all I know

Heard Celtics were blown out by the Rockets. Did also hear a couple of the Rocket players are from Kenton County. The Rechtin boy and Plummer go to IHM and are headed to St. Henry. Another is from Pius probably going to Cov Cath.

Question about the 8th grade division:

Is the breakdown on teams in this division; (5) 8th grade teams and (3) 7th grade teams?

Or are there only two 7th grade teams playing in here?

The Campbell county kids on the Rockets are Alex Trentman (St. Mary's), Eric Rieger, Nick Johnson, Jake Schulte, Conner Hanneken and Evan Sepate (all from St. Joe's Cold Spring).

Grant Schreiver is the St. Pius player.

There are 8 teams in the 8th grade division:

WARRIORS

TRI STATE WARRIORS

NKY ROCKETS

KY KNIGHTS (8th)

KY KNIGHTS (7th)

NKY JETS

GATORS

CELTICS

The KY KNIGHTS used to be the Wolfpack.

I think the only 7th Grade team is the KY KNIGHTS team.

7th Wolfpack beat 8th Wolpack

8th Rockets beat 8th Jets

8th Warriors beat 7th Celtics

5th Wolfpack beat 5th bulls

So, the Celtics aren't a 7th grade team?

Yes the Celtics are a 7th grade team

For those of us not familiar with the top players on these teams who are some of these studs?

Yes the Celtics are a 7th grade team

Oh, Im sorry. I had no idea they were another 7th Grade team.

How competetive are the 9U teams out at SOAS? I almost entered my team but didnt have any practice time with football just ending. We are solid from 1-7 and may enter the 2nd session. Just curious about the pressing and how much those teams have already practiced.

If you are solid 1 - 7 you're team would do fine in the 9U league. There seems to be a pretty good balance with the 3 of the teams in the league. The fourth maybe a little over their heads.

Give Midwest Hoops (Cincy & N. KY sites) league a look. They are offering the same league as the SWO. I believe it's $150 for the league not including ref fee's. The gate is $3 for an adult. 12 game schedule. You can stay at the N. KY site or you can have a mixed schedule of N. KY and Cincy games.

SOAS is now matching any competitors price regarding league fees. All you have to do is bring in a flyer or brochure from the competitor. Sounds like a pretty good deal.

Are they matching the gate as well?

$4 at SOAS and $3 at Midwest Hoops. No big difference. SOAS is a much better facility as it relates to comfort, cleanliness and officiating.

You must have failed math. Sounds like someone else out there who can not comprehend economics. One dollar times two adults, possibly kids, grandparents multiplied by 10 plus weeks plus a tournament adds up to more than "no big difference". Personally I like the facility at Midwest just as good as SOAS and the officiating has to better then the bushleague refs at SOAS.

Last spring, SOAS had a family entry fee of $10. All the family, grandparents included, could get in for $10 as long as they were all their at the same time. Do they no longer have that option?

I really don't see the big deal. I understand it adds up, but wait till you get to High School and you paying $5 a person or $10 for district and regional tournaments. Its a business and truthfully it sounds like they are doing there best to keep it competitive with other facilities. Would you rather be going to SOAS every weekend and playing or would you rather be traveling all across the state of Kentucky playing at any gym they can find.

When I played AAU about about 10yrs ago, I believe we would play anywhere. From Whites Tower, Simon Kenton (new and old gyms), Dixie (new and old gyms), Ryland Heights, Summit View, I think we even played at a rehab center in Ft Wright. We traveled everywhere. And then the state tournament was held anywhere from Clark Co to Scott Co to old Lex Cath to Lafayette. I think its pretty nice and pretty well run facility. Im quite jealous. I think some parents need to just suck it up.

Also I've coached for years at SOAS and I've seen a lot worse refs. Heck sometimes, I see worse refs in High School ball. They guys are out there to help out and make a few extra bucks. They aren't college and NBA refs and never will be. They understand that.
