I am a Bellevue fan and they should be in the top 10. They are in the top 6 or 7 in each of the power ratings. I am just curious how the ones who put this poll together can say Bellevue should not be in it. They have dominated every class A school they have played, they beat an athletic AA Newport, a decent AAAAA Scott, and lost early and respectably to AA Holy Cross and AAAA Holmes who has only lost one game. I am not saying Bellevue should be number one, but they should be somewhere 6-8. I explained my case, I would like one of the ones who put this great poll out to explain why they should not be in the top 10.

I assist with the ranking process, no one person has ultimate control of the process, in all seriousness Bellvue is very close to the Top 10, but no one involved in the process placed them in the Top 10 this week. Now, you can compare other rankings, but when not one person had them as a Top 10 team, that is a pretty strong argument.

 

I think Bellevue is a good team, and could end up in the Top 10, but at this time it is hard to gauge them as a Top 10 team, they have beaten some teams that they should have beaten, and they have lost to all the teams they should have lost to.

 

Compared to the other teams in the Top 10, who should be dropped? And, if you could give some reasons why they should be dropped.

I'm guessing that the 1-2 start put Bellevue behind the 8-ball. They will certainly have a chance to state their case on the 23rd.

From reading the Holy Cross-Bellevue thread from opening week, it appears that Bellevue trailed 36-0 at halftime before cutting the deficit to 36-20.

 

It also seems that Pikeville was more competitive with Holy Cross the next week ... admittedly, Holy Cross was on a long road trip, but the two games don't seem very comparable.

 

That may be why Pikeville is rated ahead of Bellevue.

Being a Bellevue fan jdg937 is seeing what most BGP's aren't because he is actually at Bellevue games watching this team get better every week. They had a slow start with some inexperienced players and guys at new positions. The offense seems as though they have come into their own and the defense is continuing to get better every week. Big test coming up next week. Time will tell but I think this team is up for the challenge. The coaches have done a great job with keeping the kids real as far as the players knew coming into the season they had some hard work to do to get this team where it needed to be in order to contend. As far as the schedule an earlier poster had it correct they beat the teams they should have. They also have destroyed some team that most wouldn't have thought going into the season. Their district is traditionally a good one and usually competitive one and to this point they are doing very well in it. The next couple of weeks will tell the story.

I think Bellevue is more deserving than Raceland. Their three losses, two to mediocre teams, shows that. Explain why Raceland deserves to be ahead of Bellevue.

Not to muddy the waters even further beyond Bellevue, but here are two more schools that I am sure are being watched closely by the BGP poll team and can make cases to be in the top 10 - Allen Central and Campbellsville. Campbellsville is really flying under the radar but they are putting together a very good season.

There's probably not a large gap between Raceland and Bellevue and you could make an argument for either one of them to be in the top 10.

Neither one really has a signature win. Raceland's victory over Fairview carries the most weight and is the most recent. That is likely the one thing that puts them ahead of Bellevue in most people's minds at this time.

I just really question the validity of the poll. You would think the people who put it together would take a look at the power rankings (Lit, Cantrell, Massey). That is really the only way you have to compare teams that don't play one another. Thanks for the responses. I am moving on. Hopefully the Tigers can prove the pollsters wrong.

Watusi stated most of what I would have stated, but to add: If you are insinuating anything, you don't know me very well. Now, Raceland beat Fairview this past week so of course Raceland would remain in the top 10, and if you truly wanted to argue one team should be dropped you would have to argue for Fairview to be dropped.

 

And again, not one member of the Ranking team placed Bellvue in the top 10.

 

As Watusi stated, there is more then likely a small difference between Raceland and Bellvue, but at this time Raceland looks to have the edge on Bellevue. Racleand has three loses, and two of them came on last second plays, Greenup blocked an extra point, and Fleming threw a hell mary. I'm not excusing that, or making excuses, but non the less Raceland is two plays from being 7-1. Raceland also had a win last week versus Fairview, who was ranked highly in the AP poll, and Raceland was not ranked. So, BGP rankings were much better then the AP, the BGP staff predicted Raceland would beat Fairview. So, who do you believe? The AP poll, or the BGP poll? If you believe the AP poll, then it was just proved wrong by the BGP poll. If you believe that BGP had it right with Raceland and Fairview, then why don't you believe BGP has it right with Raceland and Bellevue?

 

Now, Bellevue has a chance to prove their stuff in two weeks. I just don't see a big victory so far, or a big performance by Bellevue as of yet.

I don't argue with any of that, but to say they lost "respectably" to Covington Holy Cross isn't a very accurate description of the game.

The reality is that most pollsters have not seen all teams in person and tend to lean towards regions they are familiar with. They have to go by recent performances, expectations, and records. You basically start with a set poll and as teams lose they drop just to be replaced with a team that won.

 

I have seen Bellevue play. They play tough and probably deserving of a top ten spot.

I agree the argument should be against Fairview, not Raceland, maybe even Pikeville, most likely Pikeville. They've played a strong schedule but they also have 4 losses with 3 of those being by , 18, 34, 49 and 56 pts, so, granted, they were against bigger and better teams, they also weren't very competitive and are riding the shirttails of a win against an Allen Central team who came in with a good record, but, also, had played nobody.

For what its worth, Campbellsville may have a better argument than Bellevue, Fairview or Pikeville...
