I'd say the top 4 or 5 are about right. Anything else is a guess. In about 2 weeks the polls don't matter anyway. How you did in your district and getting home field is what its about.

I've said this many times (usually in the Basketball forum). Polls, rankings, power ratings, etc. are for the most part (unless we're talking BCS, which can mean millions of dollars) merely conversation fodder. Something a fan can point to and say "my team is better than your team". My daddy can beat up your daddy.

 

I like them. They generate lots of interest. I also happen to believe that the BGP poll is pretty doggone accurate. But I sure don't get my shorts in a bunch over them.

 

Ultimately, things are decided on the field. Who is #4 or #9 or #11 seven weeks into the season isn't terribly important, in the grand scheme of things.

I can remember from BGP Rankings discussions in years past that the pollsters actually do supposedly rank a minimum of 15 teams in each class each week, but only the TOP 10 are released for weekly publication. If I remember correctly at that time, the teams ranked between 10-15 were referred to as the "On Deck Teams". They also said that they had a further list below the #10-15 teams, which were then referred to as "On the Radar Teams" which were also diligently reviewed weekly.

 

However, as some have said before in this thread, once you get below the top few teams, there are often just groupings with little difference between the teams in each group. Maybe we should just have rankings "in clusters". :lol:

 

The greatest thing about ranking teams is the heated discussions which ensue. From what I've seen over the years that they have been published, the BGP Rankings have been much more accurate than others. My thanks go out to all those who work on these for creating the fun discussions which we have on this board. :thumb:

As mentioned before; to generate interest in the sport. Also (in this particular case) to generate interest in the BGP site. Judging by the response here this week, I'd say mission accomplished.

You can question it, discredit it, or edit it to your liking. We love to hear what everyone has to say. Just when you question it, or anything for that matter, it's normal for people to rebuke your argument, and that is all that everyone has done.

 

We think, and have been told repeatedly, that the BGP Rankings are the most accurate ranking available in the state, I believe that, it doesn't mean that it's perfect, or that a team can't go out and play above their ability or overachieve and beat a team that we didn't think they would. It just means, given the information available we feel that we put together the best product possible.

Ah, no. And to be honest, I don't think many of them could if asked.
