Cobb would be better for this season, but I say go ahead put Newton in let him get some experiance for next year. But Brooks is what 95 years old so he's probably not looking toward the future. LOL

Have to go with a Freshmen, and still do some "wildcat". If the freshmen aren't ready when will they be ready? UK fans are ready to embrace a great QB.

I don't see how a freshman can do any worse than what we've seen at times from Hartline...

I find it amusing that the majority want a freshman to get the start and it's not even the better of the two freshman for UK's style of offense. That said how many freshman QB's have started in the SEC and made an impact?

 

I say at least give Fidler one week of taking snaps with the first team in practice and see what he can do. Maybe it's ugly and you make change then but to automatically write him off because of Saturday is silly.

Fidler is awful. There is no reason to not get the ball rolling on the Newton Era, though the staff has to get Cobb around 20 touches a game IMO.

What the coaches need to address this week when choosing a starting Quarterback agaisnt Auburn is this:

 

Who has the better arm?

 

Who makes the better decisions?

 

Who gives them the best chance of scoring each possession?

 

Who will limit their own Turnovers the most?

 

I'm sure there might be some other possible criteria but these are the ones that come to mind first. Regardless whether a person is freshman or a senior, Brooks/Sanders/Phillips need to pick the QB who will give them a shot at winning the game and I don't care whether its Newton or Fidler, someone has to get the job done plain and simple.

 

Also if Fidler is even a little better than Newton I'd say go ahead and give the job to Newton. Why? Because if there is only a small gap between them the question comes down to the fact that Newton is a freshman and has 3 years ahead of him. Fidler is a junior and thus no explanation is needed.

I think you are on the right track, "Woodsrider", and seem to have some inside knowledge of the situation.

 

This promises to be a hot topic of discussion for the rest of the season because I can't see Mike Hartline coming back this season with his injury.

If Will Fidler does play, the playbook is a little more open than it was with Mike Hartline because Will Fidler can make some throws that Mike Hartline can't. The wide receivers have a better chance of getting the football with Will Fidler throwing it. Yes, that includes Randall Cobb.

Thats what I had first thought but someone had contradicted me in another thread and had said that Fidler is a senior and not a junior so I went ahead with that. Thanks for clearing that up :thumb:.

I just find it funny that pretty much everyone has written Fidler off after less then 2 quarters. Maybe he turns out to just not have it. If that's the case then fine but good lord at least give him a legit chance.

I haven't written anybody off yet. Sure he was like 2/8 when he came into play but it was first real actual game experience in a major SEC battle. He threw some really nice balls including one to TC Drake in the endzone. After observing Drake I have no idea as to how he was/is being considered for the John Mackey award (Nation's best TE). He has had an absolute abysmal season this year.

Fidler has put in the time give him a chance and, if he's not getting it done try Newton.
