I don't think Will did anything bad today. He was a little high on some passes early but he also made some great throws. He is a better passer than I gave him credit for.

A little misleading but it was really his first time in a major game of importance. He threw a nice ball or two here and there. Had a very good pass that I honestly thought that TC Drake should have caught in the endzone.

Why? Fidler will be gone very soon and Newton still has 3 years ahead of him and by getting him so playing time experience now it will only benefit him. Brooks is thinking what is best for us right now AND for the future. Honestly I think its a very wise decision.

I think you give Newton the spot, or at least start working him in more and more.

 

He (along with Moss in a few years) is the quarterback of the future. Fidler is never going to be the full-time quarterback. Sadly, I think this will be a lost season and there is no reason not to have Newton ready for next year.

 

Added to that, having Newton and Cobb on the field at the same time will make for some explosive plays. A bit like West Virginia with their quarterback and running back (I know Cobb is WR) a few years back.

- Cobb is not physically strong enough to survive the season playing every down at QB so he is not an option as the fulltime QB.

 

- Fidler, haven't seen enough of him to make a fully educated decision on him, but I think he should and will be given the opportunity to show what he can do.

 

- Newton, needs to see a lot of reps with the first team. I would not throw him out there just to throw him out there, but if he shows that he assimilated enough of the offense to be effective then he should be given the opportunity quickly if Fidler doesn't get the job done.

 

The biggest issue, that a new QB has with this offense is the read and change that Joker likes to do. I personally don't think that athletic ability is nearly as important as the mental aspect of the position in this system.

Cobb is one of the most physically gifted players in the entire SEC.

Any QB should be able to hand the ball off and throw 3-yard screen passes :lol:

No matter what. As a head coach you are paid to win this year. So, IMO you make the decision that you think gives you the opportunity to win right now.

 

Yes you try to build for the future and develop for the future but you have to win now, because you don't know what the future holds.

My biggest concern with Fidler is that the staff doesn't think he's better than Hartline.

At this point we are trying to salvage the program. I think it is the best move for us going forward. Cobb is not the long-term answer at QB, which is why Hartline has been playing there this year. Fidler + Newton + Cobb in the Wildcat is the best move IMO.
