I just don't see the teaching value in an up down? Other than a great way to punish a 15 - 17 yr old kid or cause a shoulder injury, which has taken place more than once @ Ryle. I hope that the coaches can find a better way to address the shortcommings that took place last night. I never suggested blame but a true leader is shoulder to shoulder with their troops. You win and lose as a team, which includes coaches. You can't teach anything when your angery.

In basketball the philosophy is you can't call something if you don't see it. Maybe an official THOUGHT he saw him down otherwise I'd argue that if you're not sure you go with what actually happened.

I'd say that's a pretty sound philosophy.

 

And of course I know that I'm defending a call that is disputable via replay. I've missed a few of those myself.:isurrender:

I think that play gets ruled a fumble in a highschool game less than 10% of the time--"If in doubt, the runner is down." We don't want any cheap fumbles. That's not to say that that philosophy is always correct, but we don't have IR to fall back on.

 

In an Division 1 NCAA game, it's ruled a fumble because instant replay can correct the call--"If in doubt, the runner is not down."

 

I agree with the no-call on the suspect hold. The runner was past the defender when the restriction occurred.

I have to disagree with this being called a fumble 10% of the time. It was a fumble and was called that way by the official. What I don't understand is why it was over ruled? I had a great view from my sofa at home!!! and I never miss a call from that sofa. :laugh:

First of all...jeez, relax. I don't know that anything is going to happen. I doubt that it will, it is a completely different time and philosophy than it was 13 years ago. It was off the cuff, and what we did, in my opinion wasn't extreme and it wasn't cruel. I said it in a joking manner that I would not want to be at practice this week, b/c I'm sure that they will be going back to the fundamentals in full force. We did a lot of up-downs one day 13 years ago. To me, it fit. I have no complaints, nobody got injured, and I believe that everyone came out ok. Relax, but yeah, football is a game of emotion, and to say that you can't teach anything angry, in my opinion is very naive. You can't teach consistently in anger that's the difference. Again, I'm not on the coaching staff for Ryle and did not mean to insinuate anything. Just kidding around.

Great game last nite! Probably the best ive ever seen them play! My son played with SK back in 07. Him and Bishop were the running backs and I told him how great SK is playing and wishes he could be here to see them play. You see he is over in Iraq so thats not going to happen.So i was wondering if someone might have taped that game and could sell me a copy to send over to him.If anyone can please send me a Email. I would really appreciate it. Keep up the good work SK and i trully believe miles can be a hell of a RB in whatever college he chooses. He is awsome to watch.

I loved playing for Coach Woolf, and I grew up w/ Coach Hardin. I find them to be very stand up guys. I still talk to coach Woolf from time to time. Both of them are enthusiastic, and are 100% about the kids. You have to give maximum effort or you will hear about it. It is like that for any successful coach.

Honestly, I hope Ryle gets to see SK again in the playoffs.
