SK certainly looked awesome last night. Lots to be excited about in NKY this year.

Difference in the game:

 

4. 'THE NON-FUMBLE THAT WAS'. Not that is dictated the outcome of the game, but the officiating was unusually amateurish, not to mention the blatant hold on Carney on Simpson's screen pass run.

 

 

I think that play gets ruled a fumble in a highschool game less than 10% of the time--"If in doubt, the runner is down." We don't want any cheap fumbles. That's not to say that that philosophy is always correct, but we don't have IR to fall back on.

 

In an Division 1 NCAA game, it's ruled a fumble because instant replay can correct the call--"If in doubt, the runner is not down."

 

I agree with the no-call on the suspect hold. The runner was past the defender when the restriction occurred.

I wonder if the coaches will do those up downs along with the players?? I'm sure they will not!

 

Why should they? Outside of the screen for a TD, SK's ball carriers made Ryle's tacklers look stupid. Ryle's D-Line got dominated, but Ryle still had LBers behind the line. They didn't break down, came in completely out of control. Maybe the coaching deserves blame, but at some point you can only do so much. Players have to make plays. Now, SK does have some outstanding backs, so easier said than done.

Just think how many up-downs you will be doing if the coaches finds out you are on this web site.

 

At the age of 29, I don't think that I could do as many as I did that day. 200 up-downs was an exaggeration. It's looking like people are taking it seriously. However Woolf was ticked, (rightfully so) and we did do a lot. We got the point real fast.

I also thought the speed difference was very noticeable starting from the first play of the game. By far the fastest SK team I've seen.

 

The 3-5 scheme fits the personnel very well.

I thought play calling killed Ryle in the first half. It got better in the second half. Second half score Ryle. 29 - S.K. 27.

 

 

Even though you point out the 29 - 27 second half score, this game was never close. This was the first time I saw Miles play. What a stud!. He can do it all Speed, Strength, Agility, and football savvy. Collinsworth is a great back and is on the same level but IMO doesn't have the strength this kid has. WOW!

 

I don't understand why these coaches never put in the second teams. Game was 42 to 7 and both sides had their first teams in? SK did seem to be trying to sub to a degree. Simpson was caring the ball up 3 TD with 2 minutes in the game. A lot of kids on the sidelines would have liked to get on TV. This game was never in doubt. If a small school had left their players in a game like this every BGP member would have been on this morning screaming about poor sportsmanship.

Alright since you opened Pandora's box, I thought there was a lot of holding going on by the O linemen of each squad. Now keep in mind as you are reading this that I'm a former O lineman, my eldest son is a former O lineman and my younger son currently is an O lineman. Holding is not something you will hear me comment often about because it usually never happens.

 

But man, watching the game on TV last night, the o linemen were getting away with just about any thing other than tackling. I noticed it more on SK's kids but that was probably only because I only watched the first half and they had the ball the majority of the first half it seemed like.

 

Elliott ran harder than I've ever seen him run. I've often scoffed about his ability to run through tackles and over tacklers because in the few games I'd watched him, he hadn't done much of it. But man he ran over and through some kids in the first half last night. I saw what people had been talking about. Tough kid.

 

Impressed with SK. They are much more balanced than last year. I commented to Henry during the first half that SK did the same thing to Ryle that Highlands did to X. Use the qb to offset the defensive focus on the star running back. Good job coach Marksberry.

 

That was a different Ryle team than I've seen this year. Perhaps it was because SK was so much better than Ryle, which they were last night. I'll leave it to the Ryle coaches to figure out why and get it straightened out.

I agree, he is a very tough kid. I thought Dave Lapham made a good observation on the television broadcast when he talked about Elliott always trying to run over/through tacklers. Lapham said he needs to pick his spots and become more of a complete runner instead of always trying to run over people. Thought this was a good assessment.

You win and lose as a team, which includes coaches. You can't teach anything when your angery.

From what I saw in the S.k. vs Conner game, S.K. could have been up by 50 and the 2ed team would not have played. :idunno:

Had you seen SK play? I had watched both teams play in person, and find it hard to believe that you would believe Ryle to be the superior team if you had seen both teams play. .

OK, I got ya. Then I have to agree with you. How could Ryle's intensity level and physicality not be off the charts for this one? Did you see the Ryle/HH game? I thought Ryle was very intense for that game and also very physical. Did they over look SK? Don't know how this could have happened, but what other explanation can you give (for the lack of intensity)?

In basketball the philosophy is you can't call something if you don't see it. Maybe an official THOUGHT he saw him down otherwise I'd argue that if you're not sure you go with what actually happened.
