Simon Kenton 49 Ryle 29

Featured Replies

I loved playing for Coach Woolf, and I grew up w/ Coach Hardin. I find them to be very stand up guys. I still talk to coach Woolf from time to time. Both of them are enthusiastic, and are 100% about the kids. You have to give maximum effort or you will hear about it. It is like that for any successful coach.

From what I hear he would be a GREAT head coach. :thumb:

Honestly, I hope Ryle gets to see SK again in the playoffs.

For this to happen would one of them have to beat X at their home? I'm just asking?

I wonder if the coaches will do those up downs along with the players?? I'm sure they will not!

I am sure that they will not but I think they should. Ryle's game plans are routinely predictable and unflexible and are easily exposed by the better teams and coaching staffs.

The Highlands game was a good example. Ryle had a great opening drive and the Highlands coaches made the necessary changes (by simply stacking the box and daring Ryle to throw). Ryle's staff was either unwilling or incapable of responding to the defensive changes made by Highlands and continued to try the same plays over and over with the same results (the SK staff obviously watched this game film). Of course the poor game plans are not as noticeable when Ryle is playing the weaker teams that can't stop the run even when stacking the box.

Having said that, I don't think it would have mattered last night as SK was simply the better team.

Agreed. As long as the Birds keep winning, there is no scenario in which such a case could be made this season.

Well, before the Highlands-Saint X game I doubt many people thought Highlands had a real good chance of beating Saint X, and look how that turned out.

With how great Simpson is, how good SK's offense is performing, and the abrupt change Highlands has had in the QB position here lately, who really knows how a HHS-SK game would go right now???

One thing's for sure: Highlands and Simon Kenton are definitely the two best teams in NKY right now.

Congrats to SK and best wishes for the rest of the season.

#3 can't even see those 2 they are are so far ahead.

Simon Kenton was just to much. It wasn't the officiating, it wasn't the rain. The Raiders were just beat in all facets of the game.

An SK/Highlandds game sure would be interesting. It should've happened this year one way or another because who wants it next year when Miles and Hansel are gone?

I don't believe it. I'm reading these posts about how S.K. beats Ryle up and down the field, and the word FLAT has not been used to describe Ryle's play. Just about every other desriptive word has been used but not FLAT.Where are all the fans that used the word FLAT when describing their teams loss or is that just a word that that Ohio teams use when they lose?

SK played very well, but this was a poor effort by Ryle. No need to call it flat, a better word would be Pluviophobia. They played like they had a fear of rain. Horrible effort.

I have a real problem with your "who had they beaten" comment. The coaching staff at Ryle doesn't pride itself into building its program into playin g a bunch of patsies to make their record look that much more credible. As I look at compared the schedules, with the exception of four opponents, Ryle and Simon Kenton play pretty much the same people. So really, your argument on schedule strength holds no water. As far as the game is concerned, Ryle was beat because they tackled poorly, blocked poorly, took tackling angles poorly, communicated poorly, etc. They need to now, re-group; pull themselves up by the bootstraps; focus on a hard fundamental week of good practice and go on.

So you're saying that with the exception of almost half their schedule, they play the same oppoenents??:ohbrother:

I guess I struck a chord with the NON-FUMBLE THAT WAS REALLY A FUMBLE comment earlier but this was a critical call at a critical time early in the game. It could have easily resulted in a 7 - 7 game shortly thereafter. The confusion they created forced Ryle to take a timeout to get their D back on the field because the whole escapade took place over by the SK bench and was so unbelievable.

I'm surprised Marksberry didn't call the over-ruling official over and give him a chest bump!

Kudos to the refs for fooling the Fox commentators. They were completely dumbfounded after spending five minutes talking about updated SK turnover stats.

At the same time I agree with whoever said Ryle played as if they were having pluviophobia -- however I am taking your word for the meaning of that one. Your vocabulary is way beyond my comprehension, but I think its true.

No offense taken. The replay clearly shows that it was a fumble.

High school officials are simply not used to having multiple angles of instant replay and NFL commentators critiquing their work. Otherwise, they'd already be in a BCS college town most Friday nights.

That's my only point.

I think that play gets ruled a fumble in a highschool game less than 10% of the time--"If in doubt, the runner is down." We don't want any cheap fumbles. That's not to say that that philosophy is always correct, but we don't have IR to fall back on.

In an Division 1 NCAA game, it's ruled a fumble because instant replay can correct the call--"If in doubt, the runner is not down."

I agree with the no-call on the suspect hold. The runner was past the defender when the restriction occurred.

Absolutely dead wrong. You need to watch the game again if you believe this. The blocker was in front of Simpson. He was grabbing the back of Carney's jersey with his left hand and grabbing his pads up at the neckline with his right hand. Absolute hold right in front of the official and should have been called.

As far as I could tell on the fumble, there was no whistle and the refs nearest the play throught it was a fumble (hence no whistle). It wasn't until well after the play that the side judge came running it to claim he was down and reversed their call. And he was 100% wrong. Very obvious on tape.:puke:

Wrong. It wasn't a horrible effort. It was horrible execution and there's a big difference between the two. Warner and Wolfe do not allow their teams to put forth terrible efforts and Ryle's team doesn't consist of players who put forth terrible efforts. They weren't "flat" either. They simply got hammered by a bigger, faster, stronger, and better team. Perhaps we'll get a chance to see them again and redeem ourselves.

Many players that Lettered as sophmores. Started J.V. as freshmen who no longer play or are playing for other schools.

Can you be more specific? I'd be curious to know the list of these players also. And if they're playing for another school, my guess is that is had to do with re-districting, not an intentional move out of Ryle's district simply to play for another school (especially since that is not a valid exception to the residency rule anyways).

With respect to the questions about Ryle's play-calling, that's a tough thing. Play calling is oftentimes one of those things where if the plays works, it was a "great call" and if the play doesn't, it was a "bad call." It's also tough to call the perfect play when your RB is getting hit in the backfield and your QB is scrambling for his life just about every time he drops back to pass. I thought the play-calling was good, but the execution on the field was poor. And, of course, SK's defense didn't help matters a whole lot. I do think Ryle could maybe work in a few more passes to Nichols over the middle. Nice, big target and if he gets a head of steam once he gets the ball, he's pretty darn tough to bring down.

I'm not sure how to send a p. m. I don't think giving out these kids names over a thread would be right. So if you p m me I think I should be able to respond.
