Alabama 38 Kentucky 20

This coaching staff should be ashamed that Mike Hartline is the best product they can produce at QB. For the sake of the rest of the season please take him out.

I was at the game yesterday, and as much as I have took up for Hartline it is time to move along without him. Only twice yesterday did I see him go through any kind of progression. The rest of the time he came out of the huddle with a receiver in mind and did not take his eyes off of them. His poor decision making had a lot to do with the outcome of the game, as well as Joker's poor play calling in instances. The two drives at mid fight, you have to run the Wildcat, and you have to let Cobb try to make plans. Three straight runs and punt is not the answer.

Brooks had the boys ready to play yesterday, they just did not execute. I will say this though. For the first time in a long time Kentucky can actually stack up physically with the rest of the SEC. Physically we played with Bama, they didn't run over us at all. They just didn't have it together between the ears. Also way too much arm tackling, other tha Guy, Micah, and a couple others we don't want to hit anybody. So many times yesterday you would just see a hole open up and see a bunch of arms come sticking in it. Cannot tackle SEC backs by throwing an arm out there, plain and simple.

I think it's time for some to admit that UK's defense, especially Lindley and Johnson, are a tad overrated. They miss Jarmon a lot, and I think a lot of their predicted success is a result of what they could have been with Jarmon in there. They have up 27 points to a terrible Louisville team that hasn't score 27 since.

Whether it's lack of tackling, poor special teams play, receivers running the wrong routes, bad throws to the middle of the field, and ill-timed turnovers, this Kentucky team is good for about 5-7 minute stretch where they make zero plays and pretty much dig a hole. Other than Cobb, UK's receivers aren't good. They don't run good routes and have a hard time making the catches they should.

I think Kentucky's opening win over a bad, bad Miami of Ohio team was fool's gold for the fans.

But you can't give up 38 points in the SEC and expect to win.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but let's all be real. Did ANYONE expect us be anything other than 2 -2 right now? Some of you said 1-3 at this point. I said 7-5 and i'll stick with it. Losses the last two weeks were expected as sad as that is to say. We haven't seen anything thus far that should be suprising to anyone with football knowledge....to borrow the quote, with a little spin...we are what we thought we were.

Lindley? C'mon, he doesn't even get thrown at. Julio Jones had two receptions for 13 yards. UF didn't even throw at him. Teams stay away from him. UK's pass defense is pathetic, but it's more of Randall Burden and Co. Lindley is far from overrated. He is what he is, a great cover corner with less than spectacular speed. JMO, but I don't think a corner can single handledly make a defense better. He's great in spite of UK's defensive problems, IMO.

JMO, but I think all players on UK can be criticized with the exception of Cobb, Lindley, and maybe Locke. Those three carry the team, and make them respectable.

Hartline didn't give up 38 points. He didn't give up 41 last week either.

He didn't do a lot to keep Bama's offense off the field either.

Neither does the special teams.

Where is the blame for them in this thread. They started the game by putting the defense on their heels this week and did it last week with the blocked punt.

Yes, but excluding the opening kickoff they did pretty well including two punts that forced Alabama to begin the series inside their own 5 yard line and almost resulted in a safety. Special teams did a good job overall.

Don't forget the Placekicker. When he lined up for both of his kicks and with the wind what it was I said "No way he gets it". Those at the time were huge plays for him and glad he got them. I only saw the opening Kickoff the rest I'd give them an "A". We have a very good punt returner, he got nothing.

You have a very good team, don't give up. Coach Saban doesn't sugar coat anything, he has said the same thing. Good Luck hope you win the rest of them.

Oh yeah, left this out of my initial post.

How about Seiber? He was the one player on the team that scares me more than Hartline. Has been nothing but horrible for a while now and hits two huge kicks in the first quarter.

Like I said, physically we can play with the elite SEC teams now. Mentally we are just not there.

Playing with these teams are one thing, actually defeating them is another. A lot of those has to do with the mental aspect as you noted. I see some talent on UK, but UK greatly suffers from a lack of play-makers on their team... especially on offense. Cobb and Locke are the only two on offense I see it from. Having success in the SEC depends just as much upon your depth as it does the starters. UK just does not have it.

You keep putting down the defense and saying how you can't give up 38 points. But you watched the same game as us, the defense was put in bad positions because of poor play by the offense and especially Hartline. I mean three interceptions, and also Bama scored a defensive touchdown didn't they? When you are playing a top team, you can't have turnovers like that, because top teams will make you pay for them no matter what type of defense you have. I mean is this defense great, no they are not. However they are not that bad either, and would look a lot better if they had an offense to help them out a little bit.

How do we define "playing with"? Because, I don't see UK being able to physically match up with the elite SEC teams. We're getting closer, but those teams have so much speed and athleticism, it just makes for tough matchups somewhere on the field.

But, the biggest problem right now, IMO, is depth. We can't absorb key injuries and losses the way many SEC schools can. And, we can't keep our guys as fresh during games because we don't have the quality of depth that others have.

I think we're getting there, but we're not quite there yet.

I'm not putting down the defense as much as I'm saying it's not entirely the quarterback's fault. The quarterback is an easy scapegoat, despite the offense scoring 13 more points on Alabama this year.

The parallel I draw to Kentucky is the Tennessee Titans. They are ready to roast Collins and fans are calling for Young. Collins didnt give up 37 points to the Jags yesterday.

But back to UK, If you've won three straight bowl games and Randall Cobb is the only playmaker you have on offense, there are some serious issues with the program. If Hartline is the best option at quarterback after three straight bowl wins, there are some bad issues to consider.

Myself (and everyone else) still doesn't know if Joker is being conservative because it's his nature or because he has no confidence in the QB to throw down the field.

Four components make up SEC powers. Good coaching, playmakers at quarterback, the ability to run the football, and a good defense.

Florida has it. Georgia and LSU have it. Tennessee doesnt have the quarterback and look at them. South Carolina cant run the football consistently which is why they are never a factor.

I still cant figure out how UK is in this predicament, even with the Pulley transfer.

I dont think Hartline had anything to do with Florida coming out and doing what they did in the first quarter. That was on defense and special teams.

However, if you get down two touchdowns to an SEC team, Hartline doesn't lead the team to a come from behind win. Not with the way the playcalling is.

I'm surprised more people aren't bothered by the 27 points allowed to Louisville, given what they scored the week before and have scored since. I guess people are too busy blaming Hartline.

There are multiple problems with this team. Not just the QB.

I agree with most of the above. The one thing you have to keep in mind when using the, "They gave up 27 points to Lousiville or 38 points to Alabama" argument against the defense, is that some of those points are on the offense. For example, the defense didn't give up 21 points in the first half, one was a pick six. In the Louisville game, a lot of those points came on a really short field due to turnovers.

^ True, but a previous post blamed the three picks and interception on Hartline. The fumble was on Locke, not Hartline.

I've come to realize that UK fans have a scapegoat for every sport, every season whether it's Michael Porter, Patrick Sparks, Ramon Harris, Mike Hartline, Dusty Bonner, Draak Davis, or Shane Boyd. It's just the nature I guess.
