Despite the fact that Towles is a sophomore, he reminded me of a right handed Bardo. He didn't run the ball much, but the one time he scrabbled and then ran down the sideline, he showed impressive speed. He has a very strong arm and good accuracy. Add to that the fact that he is 6'4 and you have quite a combination.

Highlands played quite a few sophomores on defense. Drake Bruns is a heck of a hitter. I would like to see him on offense also. I think in the future he will be.

 

I thought he looked more Guiduliesque. Something about the way he carried himself.

Congrats to Highlands for the win over Dixie!!! Towles started out the game the way I thought he would with it being his first Varsity start. Once he settled down he did a fine job and got better as the game went on. I always thought Patrick would make a good QB but more importantly he is a fine young man!!! Good job Birds keep it up, one game at a time!!!

Wow,you sure have a lot to say based on other peoples opinions. Thats hearsay,and would be thrown out of the courtroom!! Cincy X beat Elder with the same game plan that they used at the Highlands game. They used wide receiver screens,bubble screens,and a whole lot of running,right up the gut. Those are their offensive strengths,and Highlands just shut them down,while Elder's defense had no answer for X's offense. Maybe you should start going to the games that you are posting about,then your opinions would carry a little more weight!!!

 

I'd love to, but keeping my job is a little more important to me. It's silly, but it's a legit question. St. X only scores 7, Dixie scores 9? But then St. X goes over and looks like a different team against Elder. Not taking away from HHS, they won it and deserve it. But it lends credibility to the idea that St. X may have been flat last week and HHS did exactly what they needed to do to take advantage of that (Which is fine, since that is what good teams do).

 

Dixie is not better than St. X to answer the question, but it certainly is interesting to think about it. Is any team that scored more than 7 against HHS this season better than St. X? Not neccessarily. From what I heard HHS defense was just stellar that night.

 

Nothing legit about it. There is no way that I would ever consider my original statement to be true. It isnt possible. Could you imagine if the Birds would have been as gassed up last night as they were for X? HHS scored 52 with the back up QB.

I understand where you're coming from, but HHS losing to CCH would probably be one of the worst losses in school history only weeks after won of their biggest wins in school history. Can't sugarcoat the truth.

I don't know what game you were watching but Wilson's passing wasn't on last night. He held the ball way too long and on many occasions hung his recievers out to dry. There were numerous times he had recievers wide open in the middle of the field and elected to throw into heavy coverage. There were a hand full of passes that weren't anywhere close to being on the money. Wilson did run the ball very well and stood up to some very cheap shots by the birds.

 

I didn't think he was that bad last night. He was running from pressure a lot. Yes, he hung his receivers out a couple times. However, his receivers didn't give him much help either. They had a ton of dropped balls last night. I don't really recall many forced passes last night. :idunno: The pick was thrown into double coverage, but you expect a 6'4" receiver to at least make some play on the ball.

It might also be the fact that every INCH counted in the X game. Every down was played with that intensity. That is not the case when playing Dixie and HHS knew that they could just flat out outscore them when need be. Good defenses rise to challenges like HHS did against X.

I'm aware the team is very good. Never said otherwise. But it doesn't change that St. X may have came out flat. I've never seen St. X in person, but I've seen HHS. From people who've seen both, it seems St. X was flat offensively and HHS was just hitting on all cylinders from the get go and looked the best they had all season.

 

It's possible X was looking ahead to Elder. But a national TV game I think they were pretty "jacked" up. The more I see the GCL it reminds me of the big ten; very good teams with great size but "slow". I don't believe X was ready for the speed of Highlands smaller speedier birds. Ask Florida they'll take speed over brawn.

Even without Bardo, Highlands is two TD's better than Ryle and SK.
